I have taken the SAT twice already. With super score I have 2330. I did really well in the multiple choice section of the writing (only 1 wrong) but I did so badly on the essay (7). I am not a bad writer so this score deeply baffles me. Should I take the SAT again for January? At the same time, I wanted to improve one of my bio subject test which I got 780 on before. Which one is more worthwhile to retake?
i think you should focus on other things rather than retaking since your score is pretty good already. December SAT was my first time and i screwed up pretty badly and only got 1970. Any advices on critical reading and writing sections?? I also got an essay of 7 and that was a huge blow to my writing section.
neither
I wouldn’t bother taking SAT 1 again, honestly. W isn’t that important, and your score is excellent anyway. Fill your time with bigger and better things, the life activities and experiences that will back up your scores and make you both a truly appealing applicant and–more importantly–a meaningful, interesting person.
Wait, is this serious? I’m not trying to be snarky, but are there really so many students here who are dissatisfied with scores like this? I mean, congratulations, that’s amazing, wow…but I keep coming across these threads and is this a new expectation of today’s high school students? FYI I’m a parent whose child is quite proud of her 1930… and she is a 4.0 IB student who would never in a million years dream of a score as high as yours and others I’ve read about here.
Again, well done, can’t imagine why you would want a retake.
I agree @IBviolamom I got a 31 C on my ACT first time this month and am praising God for it!
If you take the test again you will potentially be seen as a test obsessed automaton. Don’t.
Why waste a perfectly good Saturday morning?
As someone who got a 2350 one setting and thought about this a lot for a while: no. It’s too risky. You could easily take it again and get a lower score. That would be a disaster. Or, as others have pointed out, you could get rejected because adcoms might view you as a test-taking robot. Especially if you’re Asian. 2330 is good enough.
Omg I feel you on the essay. I got 8 on the essay the first time. I thought it couldn’t get any lower. I was wrong. It really doesn’t make sense to me because I am a good writer and everyone who saw the essay I wrote for the exam said it was good. Ugh.
I would not take either one again. Basically M and CR are the most important ones, and once you’re at that 1500+ mark (you’re already at 1600) for those and have a 700+ W score, you’re set for all schools. As for the SAT II, 750+ is fine, and a 780 on Bio (which I also got and also contemplated taking again before I stopped being unreasonable) is the same thing as perfect and won’t hurt you. Definitely don’t take either again unless you want to take the very risky chance of coming off as a “test-taking robot.”
@samsunguser I get what you are saying. What I am thinking now is to take SAT physics in January since I might get lower if I took bio again. (though not likely but in the odd chance it happens ://) but I want to take another one so that I will have a 800 science subject. I hope that won’t make me a “test-taking robot” since I’ve seen many Americans take many more.
Your scores will probably go down with a retake.
And no need to make a smack at Americans. That was uncalled for.
Retaking with your current scores will make you look like your priorities are misplaced.
The writing is dead and not important anymore. Look at top schools new policy for SAT for Class of 2017- writing not required. The new SAT makes writing optional - colleges will not care about your writing score.
Its ridiculous to even consider retaking a test where you got a perfect score on the 2 key components.
If you are a senior, what will taking the SAT subject test in January get you? Scores won’t be released until Feb…way past due dates.
Focus on any remaining essays and enjoying your current senior year. Don’t spend it obsessing over the future. Live here now.
No the writing isn’t “dead”. That is inaccurate. Just because it’s optional does not mean that schools, especially top schools, will not look at writing ability over and above the submitted app essays. Some will not superscore without the writing section. Always take the writing.
Hi everyone, I have a similar question. When I took the SAT the first time, I scored a 2210 in the start of my junior year. But I knew I could do better, so I retook it the next month but ended up falling ill and doing miserably (I cancelled). Then after a year, I retook it this December and got a lower score by about 100 and my superscore only goes up to 2220. I know I can do a lot better than 2210 and my most recent score of 2100. But I don’t know if it’s worth a 4th sitting. I’m an international student aiming for top end universities for engineering. What do you recommend?
@smashhighschool your sat score won’t get you accepted or rejected (Generally speaking). Focus on, and improve on other aspects of your application (Essays mostly)
