<p>I’m an international and I come from the top school in my small country. it’s crazily competitive here, and it sends many students to Ivies etc every year. For my ‘A’ levels, I didn’t do as well (comparatively) as I had hoped and I’m only in the top 10% in terms of ‘A’ level grades alone. </p>
<p>However, top 10% is my own (accurate, according to teachers) estimation. My school doesn’t rank, and my GC will say so in the school report. She said she won’t even give a rough decile ranking. but I’m pretty sure that colleges can roughly guess when they consider the exam results from other applicants from my school, and since probably only the top 10-20% wld even consider applying to the colleges I’m applying to, I probably won’t compare well (at least among the applicant samples from my school at their disposal)</p>
<p>And well I’m just one of only two 2400 scorers for both SAT I and SAT II in my school, at least to my knowledge. Would I appear as “lazy brilliant”? I’m pretty sure though that colleges would know how rigorous my sch is, over the past years.</p>
<p>It occurs to me that all one can do is the best one can do. You certainly don’t control who else goes to your school. So you can only control your own grades, not the grades of those around you, and therefore not your rank.</p>
<p>Which doesn’t really exist, since your school doesn’t rank.</p>
<p>wellll… i think i barely passed it. if my estimation IS wrong, I’m probably in top 15%, at WORST.</p>
<p>But even though my sch doesn’t rank, I don’t know, colleges could just guess? and since perhaps no one from the bottom 10% applies there, they won’t know where my exam results stand.</p>
<p>I’m sick of reading these kinds of threads. Dude, you are a genius, you will probably get into Princeton and Harvard, so quit acting like you have a reason to complain and save it for others.</p>
<p>I think the bigger problem here is personality. If you’re obsessing at being only in the top 10% of your class in the top school in your “small country” while you have scored a perfect 2400 on your SAT, some of the top schools could deem that you lack perspective, a life, or have nothing bigger or more important to worry about. This is especially compounded by the fact that the 10% ranking won’t be declared but will have to be inferred by the readers of your application. I would spend your energy making sure you do not appear to have so little to offer on the personality side of the admissions assessment.</p>

As an international student, pmwosa has EVERY RIGHT to stress about his/her ranking. And no, NOT every 2400 student will get into the college of his/her choice - I believe for Harvard the acceptance rate is around half, and probably lower for international students.</p>
<p>Brown’s Facts and Figures page provides accepted / enrolled information - as you can see, its not pretty below Val/Sal rank. This is just one school, of coarse, but it will at least be similar to the other hypercompetitive schools. </p>
<p>pmwosa - see if you can get information (as scattergrams or a gray book) on student acceptances from your hs at various SAT / GPA/Rank levels. This will help you to know how colleges view rank at your school - top ten percent at a competitive hs may be ok.</p>
<p>ohio_mom, my school doesn’t rank and it doesn’t have a GPA system… I’m actually looking at my A level results, a one-off examination. So actually I’m just afraid that my rank might be inferred, and that from the sample size colleges have from my sch, that it would seem bad.</p>
<p>sigh I think i’d have thrived under a GPA system. I’m not exactly the kind to hold his nerve at big huge national examinations like A levels that don’t give second chances.</p>
