25-75 "EC" Range

On this board we often talk about the 25/75 GPA and LSAT range at the top schools.

I thought I’d pose the question in regard to ECs, specifically in regard to those schools that value ECs the most, Yale and Stanford: what’s the “range” in EC strength for these schools?

To put it less mathematically (since this is in NO way a mathematical question!), what is the “lowest level” of EC strength that’ll get you into these schools, assuming you’ve got the requisite GPA and LSAT scores (above 75th percentile for the 2 schools). We all know the “ceiling” (there is none, really: Rhodes scholars, African government officials, etc). I was curious to hear what people think is the “floor,” or at least the “normal” degree of EC strength accepted applicants have (“normal” here being quite impressive, when taken out of the rarified air that we’re talking about). Anecdotal evidence welcomed, as it may be all there is to go on.

I’ve known some kids who got into Yale who left me scratching my head. Excellent students, but no more excellent than the legions who got rejected.

As jonri has excellently described elsewhere, Yale’s process is more random than it is super-selective. A dominant character has great chances at Yale; it’s nearly impossible to find a pattern that explains their “borderline” admits.
