Applying to
UCSD
Uiuc
Ut Austin
Utd
Ut a&m
Purdue
Uw-madison
Uwash
Purdue

Which colleges can I get into most probably?

What are “good” grades? What about extracurricular activities, awards? Are all these schools affordable meaning paying full fees?

For UCSD, figure out your UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

ACT of 28 is just at the 25th percentile for UCSD and SAT scores are below the 50th percentile. For CS, you want to be above the average stats to have any chance at CS. Also CS is capped meaning that there are far more qualified applicants than spots so super competitive.

Depending upon your grades, UCSD is probably a Reach school based on the limited information given.

UCSD UCGPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students

High School GPA UC: 4.00 - 4.27
ACT Composite Score: 28 - 33
SAT Critical Reading: 590 - 720
SAT Mathematics: 630 - 770

Are you a full pay?

I can tell you now UT Austin is a high reach. Their CS department is extra difficult for an international student with below average stats to get into.

The only school I see you have somewhat of a decent chance at on your list is Texas A&M

I got a 9.8 GPA in my 10th out of 10 and I play basketball for my school in nationally recognised tournaments and was elected into an internship at an MNC.
I would love to get some financial aid but if I dont its alright.
Can u please tell me if I can get into the others??

Every school you are thinking about is a low to high reach besides maybe A&M.

My GPA is 9.8/10 in the national board exam.
And I play a lot of sports at nationally recognised school tournaments.
I was a part of the band for 3 years too.
And was elected for an internship at an MNC.
Can these stats help me get into the other colleges?
I also am the admin of a social media page with over 1k followers.

Got a 32% chance of acceptance for cs in UCSD website

Where on the website did you get this percentage? Plugging in your stats only does not take into account EC’s and essays which are subjective. 32% still makes it a Low Reach. Worth an application but if you can pay full fees.

Gumbymom, if you are referring to UCSD, they don’t really take EC’s into account, except to the extent you play them up in essays.

At some of the schools, you may apply for the CS major, but the school could admit you to the school but not the major. If you enroll under those conditions, it may be very difficult to get into the CS major later.

@hopeyhippie: EC’s are considered important according to the common dataset along with their application review criteria which is posted on the UCSD website. Again how much emphasis is put on these factors is determined by the admission’s staff but still a factor which cannot be quantitated when giving acceptance chances.

UCSD Application Review:

Personal Qualities
leadership ability
motivation, tenacity, initiative
originality, creativity
intellectual independence
responsibility, insight, maturity
demonstrated concern for others and for the community
Likely contributions to the intellectual and cultural vitality of our campus, which values cultural, socioeconomic and intellectual diversity.

Achievement in academic enrichment programs, including those sponsored by UC
time and depth of participation
academic progress made during that participation
intellectual rigor of the particular program
Other evidence of exemplary, sustained achievement in any field of intellectual or creative endeavor
accomplishments in the performing arts and athletics
employment
leadership in school or community organizations or activities
community service

Challenges, hardships, unusual circumstances
maturity, determination and insight with which you have responded to and/or overcome
contextual factors that bear directly on your achievement, including linguistic background, parental education level, and other indicators of support available in the home

Uwash, uiuc, and ucsd may be tough. Rest you should be able to get into

@Gumbymom Yes, I am familiar with the criteria the UC’s publish. But just looking at UCSD alone, they receive over 78k applications each year. The amount of time spent on each one is minimal, and the fact is that it really is the numbers that determine admission. For example, fully 100% of students are in the top 10% of their graduating class; 94% have a gpa of 3.75+. Only 1% have a gpa between 3.25 and 3.49, and none have a lower gpa. So all the leadership, creativity, etc., in the world isn’t going to change anything. Perhaps on the margins, if a student is a wobbler, they may look at those factors that don’t fit into a numerical algorithm.

I’m sorry if this sounds negative, but I think it does students a disservice to pretend that the UC’s take a holistic approach. California residents also should be aware that almost 1/4 of UCSD students are out-of-state, making admission even more difficult than it otherwise would be.

UCSD - High Reach (All UC schools are particularly hard to get into)
Uiuc - High Reach (While the school itself is not as hard to get into, its business and engineering departments are VERY hard to get into. Its engineering department stands almost behind Harvard.)
Ut Austin - High Reach (UT Austin LOVES in-state applicants, so 90%+ of admitted undergraduates are in-state applicants.)
Utd - Never heard of this school, so not sure, but maybe not that hard because it is not a well known engineering/computer science school.
Ut a&m - Low Reach (Not as competitive as UT Austin, but still quite hard when it comes to engineering.)
Purdue - Reach (Quite hard when it comes to department of science and aerospace.)
Uw-madison - Reach (Very good school)
Uwash - High Reach (The school itself is not that hard, but yet exceptionally hard to get into engineering and computer science department)

These are my advice to you based on your SAT & ACT scores and given extracurricular activity information.

madison purdue are reaches, others are quite unreasonable. You should be able to get dallas and and A&M though

yes.

my gpa is 3.9/4
