28 on the ACT...

is it possible to get into Pomona with that ACT score and a unweighted GPA of 4.0?

Maybe try the SAT?? But it can be done  Have hope!

Take it again.

My son raised his score from a 31 to a 34 with zero studying.

If I saw someone with a 4.0 but only a 28 ACT, I would think that his high school grades are a bit suspect (grade inflation or easy high school).

Also, you probably know that there are “SAT optional” schools out there.

Pomona has a VERY low acceptance rate. So to me, that indicates that you basically have to submit a perfect application to get in.

floridadad555,

There are so many things wrong with what you just said.

A 28 on the ACT is a GOOD score. The average score in this country is a 21. A 28 is excellent.

Maybe he was hungry or tired or had to go to the bathroom during parts of the test? A standardized test isn’t completely a test of someone’s intelligence. It’s partly to do with how well you know how to take the test. JUST like you said about your son. You say he raised it form 31 to 34 without studying? Probably because he knew the test better the second time.

There is no way someone should be made to feel bad for getting a 28. He/she doesn’t need to find only ACT/SAT optional schools to go to college. That’s ridiculous.

Honestly! Some of the people on this website are crazy. A 28 is good!

ari9778,

I would still apply to Pomona. Why not try? Your GPA is great and your ACT score is good. Do take it again, but if that doesn’t work, I would still apply. Anything is possible, even if it is not likely.

…I’d kill to have a 28 :/

If that score is from the recent Sept. test date for the ACT please retake it later. I got a 34 on a previous ACT and went down to a 31 on that Sept. test. The score is fair but if you really want to be competitive shoot for 30+
