i love the grandfather one but the research one is a little corny to me…
maybe because i’ve always found looking at cells under the microsope boring…
but good job!

IvyLeague- Since I am applying to Princeton, I will have to write 2 short essays (250 words) and one long essay (500 words)

emagdnim2100- yes, there are grammatical mistakes…sorry about that. But, it is only second draft out of maybe ten or twenty drafts. I know I will have to go to adults like my parents and my AP English teacher to edit

Other CCers- I never thought about making it concise by removing relevant sentences/words. You know what? It worked. I took your advice and revised my research paper (still working on grandfather thing). Guess what? It is only 3 words over the limit. Basically, I went down from 350 to 253. Its all because of your help (and my writing too ).

wow_98, since I’ve been on CC long (it’s addictive) let me give you another word of advice (ok, so take it with a pinch of salt). I don’t know what your relation is with your AP teacher but a class essay for high school is very different from a college admissions essay. My son says that in retrospect, he did not get much help from his English teacher (who he dearly loves and even got a recommendation from her) but since a college essay is a different animal, the teachers were not that helpful. But your teacher could be helpful too…who knows?

I’d recommend (and I’ve seen this recommendation many times) that you show the essay to people who are good writers including friends.

thanks achat-I will keep that in mind. So, maybe my parents and friends (one of them is a writing genius-that should help me a lot but one problem-we are applying to same schools lol). But, is it okay if I can ask my teacher to EDIT, you know, check for grammatical mistakes?

Sure, do involve your teacher if she/he can help. I don’t know her, so I’m only making generalizations…
