2nd Round Interviews...? For a summer internship?

Hello parents! I was thinking (read: panicking) about this this morning and thought I’d see if you all could weigh in.

I’m currently in the process of interviewing for summer internships through NODA (National Orientation Directors’ Association) and ACUHO-I (Association of College and University Housing Officers International). My phone interviews (which I had never done before) are going well…I REALLY want to do NODA and I’ve gotten interviews with 4 out of the 8 schools I applied to so far (haven’t heard anything from the other 4).

A couple of them, and the ACUHO-I schools, are doing second-round interviews. How do I even begin to prepare? What questions do I ask them at the end (different ones from those I asked the first time around, I assume)? I have no idea who will be interviewing me, so it could be the same people or it could be completely different.

Help!

(PS: aside from that everything is going well  one of the schools contacted my references this morning and according to my current supervisor, said that I’m one of their top candidates! So exciting!)

I can tell you behaviors that have gotten intern candidates nixed at my h’s Fortune 500 company (they’re also in the thick of interviewing candidates).

Asking questions that are easily found on the company’s website.

Taking a long time to answer a question (fine) and then not having any answer (not fine).

Saying you don’t want to work 100 hour weeks. (who does?) A better comment “I enjoy a healthy balance between my work and personal lives.”

Look over their website and find ways you can express how you fit their corporate image, work ethic, etc. Try to anticipate the usual questions about your strengths and weaknesses, prior work experience, interests, etc., and have a ready answer for those. My h likes to start at the bottom of your resume (he’s big on volunteering) and go from there.

Congrats on the response you’ve received so far! :)

Thanks for the advice! :)

I have no problem working 100 hour weeks…kinda comes with the territory of working Orientation (or working in Residential Life). I did mention, when one internship asked me where I saw myself in 5 years, that I’d like to be living on campus. They found that hilarious. (in my head I thought, “No…but seriously…”)

First second round interview today at 4:30EST with Texas Tech University! Just got offered another yesterday…over Skype. gulp
