2nd semester grades SUCK, worried about scholarships

I haven’t been looking at my grades at all, and due to my negligence I’m looking at a 3.0 gpa for my 2nd semester (two As, two Cs, one B).

So I’m passing all of them (and it is a pretty tough schedule – four APs and newspaper) but I still can’t help but panic a little bit thinking about scholarships. I’ve gotten GREAT merit-based scholarships – one of them the mizzou scholars award, which, uh, they only give to 35 people – from University of Missouri, and I’m worried they’ll see my fairly pathetic performance this semester and rescind them. The thing is, it’s pretty late in the semester, and I don’t think I have enough time to pull them back.

Am I stressing myself out over nothing, or should I be begging my gov teacher for extra credit? I can’t believe I got myself into this mess

The B should be fine, I would try to get the C up to a B if you can.

Cs I mean

Beg and beg some more. Explain your situation and ask for extra credit assignments. Do everything you can to pull the Cs up just to be on the safe side. Can’t hurt to try.

What are the terms of the scholarship offer? Usually, as long as you don’t get rescinded, your second semester grades have no affect on a merit offer from a college.

Your award was likely based on the “snapshot” at the time of application. Unless the award states that the 8th semester of senior year’s grades will be evaluated, I doubt anything is going to happen.

That said, work hard this last few weeks!

@mom2collegekids it doesn’t say anything about sr year grades… the renewal terms are 3.25 mizzou gpa but it doesn’t say anything about like before I get there. The eligibility says “excellent high school academic record” but I kinda assumed that meant 9-11/before they awarded the scholarship? I’m not sure. I’m going to go in and talk to my teachers tomorrow and see if I can get them to accept late work or something (I was sick one day and forgot to check the classwork for this super strict AP teacher I have two periods so that’s having a pretty big impact) so hopefully I can just fix it and not worry about it. I haven’t had success with him in the past though. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the replies, everybody! @ future seniors reading plz don’t listen to your classmates when they say you can slack off haha just do the work it’s actually less stressful that way

If those are your second semester grades, what are your first semester grades?

They weren’t great either, honestly, but all As and Bs at least

Sounds like you may have a 3.25 cum for the year if your first semester is at least half A’s.

Would that be the bar?? It specifically says “your mizzou GPA” in the renewability. I’m not sure if I had more As than Bs honestly I’d have to check

I don’t think it’s the bar, but I would think that if there were going to be an issue (and I don’t), that that would be the minimum expected.

But, again, I don’t think there is a minimum at this point for your high school years as long as you don’t get rescinded…and it doesnt’ look like you’re in danger of that.

Thanks – you’re probably right. I guess we’ll just have to see…

You may call to find out. Many colleges offer scholarships based on your HS GPA. Sometimes they mention that in the award letter. If that is the case, a drop in GPA may affect your merit aid.

Just wanted to let you all know that I emailed Mizzou and they said I’d be fine! So that’s a load off. Thank you all for your responses!
