2nd tier List of schools that offer merit aid?

We have been told there are some schools that don’t get many 1450+ SAT applications, and in the interest of upping their #s, offer generous Merit aid in order to attract higher end academic students.

This can be attractive for highend acqdemic kids, who don’t qualify for financial aid.

Does anyone have a list likethis? Or other info?

TIA

While all of these schools offer nice scholarships to NM scholars, many also will offer nice aid to students who aren’t NM, but do have high stats:

My D with 1320 SAT’s 3.8GPA and great leadership and activities got great merit at USD, Puget Sound, Willamette, Lewis and Clark, Trinity University, Redlands, Knox, Ithaca, St. Louis University. Southwestern is also good, Santa Clara gives money over 1350 SAT . Usually the school websites will list their awards as well. Most all of the 2nd tier LAC’s will give money. Also Whitman is worth a look, Occidental.Macallistar, Good luck.

az: macalester gives excellent need-based aid but very little in the way of merit-aid.

Mac is also a top tier school and very competitive…

Sorry if I misrepresented Mac. a good friend of ours with low 1400’s got merit there but he had a very high GPA near perfect from a competitive HS so I made a generalization. There are some top tier schools near the bottom of the list that may give merit as well. Good luck!

duke is a 2nd tier school and offers merit aid.

ahhahahaahhahahaahahahha.

ha funny… duke… 2nd tier

what are the 1st tier colleges?

oh…first tier?

University of Texas, Trenton Community College, University of Alabama (tuscaloosa), and the world renowned Bob Jones University.

how about wayne state university? or central michigan… or oakland university

UTA is indeed first tier!!! don’t make fun of it ;)

Just google the US News college guide and you can easily see how colleges are ranked.

lol

You are right. UTA is pretty darn sweet. Replace UTA with Houston Community COllege. It’s way more renowned and respected by all the people “in the know”: Oprah WInfrey, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Anna Nicole Smith.
