I’m I doomed I’m looking into schools such as all the sunys Clark university uvm Colorado boulder Utah etc I improved a lot over sophomore year have decent ec’s is there time for me to bring up my gpa I’ve junior and senior years
If you’re on an upward trajectory and have decent test scores I don’t think you’re “doomed” for many of the schools you’ve listed. Certainly not “all” of the SUNYs (probably not Bing or Stony Brook); or any of the other schools you’ve listed. A lot depends on the rigor of the classes you’re taking as well.
Well I’m looking to take ap us next year and I’m taking ap chem senior year and ap italian also senior year but my grades are definitely on an upward trend
Are you a high school student wondering about what sorts of universities would accept you? Did you just finish your sophomore year of high school? I will assume yes until I hear otherwise.
Your junior year will matter a lot in terms of college admissions. You already are not going to go to Stanford or Harvard. That does not matter. There are a great many very good universities to choose from.
A 3.0 GPA is very close to average for all students in the US. As such there are lots of students who are a lot like you, and therefore a lot of schools who cater to students a lot like you.
Do as well as you can in your upcoming year. Keep ahead in your homework. Start your homework as soon as it is assigned. Keep ahead in your reading. Dedicate yourself to working hard this upcoming year of school. Always pay attention. Treat everyone with respect. Seek out help early if and when you need it. I would not worry about ECs. Focus on bringing up your GPA. You want to learn how to be a good student.
A year from now you will be in a better position to think about what sorts of colleges or universities will make sense for you.
By the way, I do know a small number of students who did worse than you for the first two years of high school, and ended up doing very well. One became a tenured professor at a very good university that he never could have been accepted to straight out of high school (he started at a mediocre university, did exceptionally well there, and transferred to a highly ranked university where he did very well, eventually going on to a PhD). It is definitely not too late. The trick is to up your effort from now on, learn how to be a good student, and take the opportunities when they come up.
Run a search for “Colleges for B Students”. There are plenty of them out there, and there is an entire book on them too. You’re going to have to pay close attention to the finances, however, as merit aid could be sparse.
I’m also a ny state resident and SUNY colleges are probably my best bet
I also did terrible in math getting an f last semester but bounced back and got an a plus this semester
If someone can please respond even it’s bad just a response would be nice because I’m a realist and I need to know if I’m screwed
The bad start is a little worrying, but colleges love to see upward trends. If you continue to do as well or better as this semester you should be fine. Probably not competitive for ivies/top 20s but state schools should be fine or you can always do 1-2 years at a community college and then transfer. Try not to stress out to much just work hard and it will pay off
Work on your school studies. Spend some time on activities you enjoy. A bit early to be targeting colleges but being in NY, have some fun with Which SUNY Are You. Get some idea what your parents are planning to spend on college for you. What they think would be good ideas.
Work hard and do as well as you can in school next year and study for the standardized tests. Upward trends are good.
It is too early to look at specific schools. But the good news is that NYS has a lot of excellent colleges and universities and you should be able to find ones that will be good matches for both your academics and interests.
I’ve had a rough start to freshman year 80 overall average had a terrible first semester of soph year 75 but bounced back this semester with a 90 overall I’m in the honors program I have decent ecs and I also have high functioning autism I plan to get as and a plus next year what colleges acceptances rates would except me I’m probably a geography business admin double major thank you
My daughter had a bad 10th grade year. Failed a class and had to take over summer. She applied to 10 colleges. Was accepted to 9. Received merit at 5.
After merit, cost of colleges with R&B were in the 23k to 30k range.
Accepted to
2 in state directional universities
3 state schools out of state universities
4 private LACs.
She did well on her ACT.
