3.1 and a 27....chances (will chance back) ??

hi, i have a 27 on the act and a 3.1 unweighted gpa, I have had 3 paying jobs, and good ec’s also, i am unsure if it really makes a big difference but I do not need financial aid,and I have had a constant upward swing in grades no semester less then the one before it the schools i am wondering about are:

(in order)

  1. The Ohio State University (hospitality management major/ school of education and human ecology, also… i really dont know if this makes a difference but my oldest friend’s dad is a big donor/friend of president of university and he says he is willing to talk to him)
  2. University of Arizona (business or education)
  3. Missouri (Hospitality Management/ agriculture school)
    4.Penn State-UP (hospitality management)
  4. U Minnesota TC (sport management)
  5. Syracuse University (Hospitality management/ school of human ecology)

Super stretch
Maryland CP

Also i am from illinois…thank you!!!

Why go to these places if you could attent UIUC for basically half the price?

The Ohio State University-Yes

University of Arizona-Yes

Missouri-Yes
4.Penn State-UP-No

U Minnesota TC-50/50, slightly in your favor

Syracuse University- not so sure

Well I guess it definitely comes down to the Extracurriculars, like specifically what are they, and then you have to go into any leadership positions you may hold, as well as commmunity service, also on the jobs you’ve had were you terminated or did they end pleasantly. You also have to take into account recommendations and the like. The 3.1 uw GPA isnt always the best but by no means should you consider it the worst, the 27 on the ACT is always good, but if you can take it again and score even higher or get a high score on the SAT then youll increase your chances even more. Now to answer your question based off of what I know.
1)Ohio State University-Yes
2)University of Arizona-Yes
3) Missouri- Yes
4) Penn State-UP- Serious reach here unless you can somehow distinguish yourself form the rest of the crowd up there, its competitive.
5) U of M-TC- might be a reach especially if you’re out of state. They are big on ACT and EC’s. Are you ethnic (excusing the questions) because they seem to like that as well.
6) Syracuse University- No, sorry. GPA would have to be higher to get past prelims.

but for the most part it looks like youd be doing fine.

I think it comes down to this:

Did you have those three jobs to make money, or because your family needed it? if you were working for your family, you have a good chance
Also, your ACTs are pretty good. Just make your ECs seem larger-than-life

i have very similar stats to you. please chance back heres my predictions:

  1. The Ohio State University-in match
  2. University of Arizona-in safety
  3. Missouri-in
4.Penn State-UP-in because of less popular major, could be slight reach tho
  4. U Minnesota TC-in because of less popular major
  5. Syracuse University-possibly in

Super stretch
Maryland CP-reach but still a possibility

Methinks you need to apply to Indiana University-Bloomington.

well i just had the jobs to make money but they all ended pleasantly, jamba juice for 10 months, an accounting’s office for 6 months and i am going to be a camp counselor, also i volunteered at a charity, my ec’s include:

3 yrs of hockey so far (4th year will be senior year, captain of hockey last year)
asian club
educators of tomorrow
sophomore board
junior board
will do senior board
snowball (anti drug retreat)
acting showcase 2009 (play)
and some others i just cannot remember

please chance me back…

Our stats are somewhat similar!
But as far as chances I see…
UA~ Def In
PSU~ low reach
OSU~ IN
UMD~ reach unless you stand out some sort of way
Missouri~ idk if this is true, but I heard if you have atleast a 24ACT your IN

as far as he other schools im not sure :)
