3.1 gpa HELP

Hi.
I’m a junior at a extremely competitive well to do public school in Western Massachusetts. I am an immigrant and of a low income family with lots of siblings. I am on honor roll every term and have a weighted GPA of a 3.2 (not the best I know). I take mostly advanced and AP courses. My sophomore year, my grades slipped because I was diagnosed with type I diabetes.
• Row varsity crew (3rd year)
• President and founder of Red Cross Club at my school
• Hospital intern
• Hospital Advisory board member
•Journalist for school newspaper
•intern at biotechnology lab
•honor roll student
•first time college goer

Are you asking for college suggestions??

What do you want to study? Have you taken the ACT or SAT yet?

The low GPA + low income is a tough combination because the schools that provide the best financial aid are generally more competitive for admissions. However, if you have high grades, a dip due to your health issues, then high grades again, try reaching for some schools where your grades not counting the dip are similar to the admitted students.

Look for low cost schools such as starting in community college and transferring as well as four year schools that give good aid. Here is a website that sorts schools by aid given to lower income kids

What’s your budget? Do you know your EFC?
