3.1 Weighted GPA, 34 ACT, Failed Most Classes Until Junior Year

Due to undiagnosed and untreated ADD, I did not live up to my full academic potential until Junior Year despite obvious gifts. I have a well documented and detailed explanation of my poor grades as an underclassmen. Generally looking for a medium/large public or private school in a preferably WARM climate, cost is not an issue. What schools should I apply to? Thanks so much for your time!

I would apply to all in-state universities and plan on going to community college. You could transfer somewhere better from there.

I don’t mean to be harsh, but I am a senior who also had a GPA hit due to illness. I learned that universities don’t care that much about your circumstances the hard way.

Congrats on improving your academics. Keep it up. Way to hang in there.

You can get into several good four year colleges. Many large state schools have their automatic admissions scores listed on their admissions page. Example: University of Missouri http://admissions.missouri.edu/apply/freshmen/requirements/test-scores.php You have an excellent ACT score. If your school has Naviance, type in your scores and see what comes up. Smaller schools and private schools have more ability to listen to your story. Start requesting information from schools online. Focus on keeping your grades up. If you have a good guidance counselor at your school, he or she will be very helpful. Let me look around for some schools.

Then again, I was a different sort of applicant, and I did get into my dream school, so take my advice with a grain of salt. There are likely some schools that will be more lenient with you, but you will have to prove that you can handle a college workload.

You will probably need to say what you want to major in before you get any meaningful answers, however.
