@bester1 If you and your daughter decide to consider Bowling Green, you might want to check out the University of Toledo also. My daughter was accepted there with a waiver of the OOS portion of tuition and an additional $4000 scholarship. Of course, she now won’t consider it (even though it has a unique program she really likes) because she didn’t realize it was so close to Michigan and will be cold in the winter. (You’d think she would have looked at a map before applying!)

@kidzcatz…Thank you. She was interested in Toledo but they are not recruiting any new swimmers. She has a very good friend swimming for Bowling Green and wants to remain good friends so she ruled it out long ago. Afraid the competition will ruin their friendship.

We visited…you might be surprised but things are changing at this affordable school…

@bester1 Yes, Youngstown State is certainly affordable, with a net cost (per NPC, and not including books and personal expenses) of about $6000 for our family. Cheaper than any of the PASSHE schools. However, I doubt that I can convince my daughter to apply there, now that she’s been accepted to Temple. She’s willing to take full student loans, do work study during the school year, and work 2 jobs in the summer if she has to to afford to go there. We’ll have to see what the financial aid packages look like for Temple and West Chester.

@kidzncatz …Great news on Temple. Our financial aid for WCU is the unsubsidized student loan.

:frowning: ^

With financial award…Cleveland State comes in at $19,000 not including incidental living expenses. She will also likely decent athletic scholarship money. Not my preference but she is pleased with it. Still can’t believe they come in under PASSHE schools.

Congratulations!

Thank you for the kind words!

PASSHE Price per credit news…doesn’t sound like it is working in their financial favor…

Don’t look now but PASSHE is going to condense/merge some of the schools(likely Clarion, CALU, Edinboro, Mansfield). Many predicted this but still interesting as most of these schools have added many new buildings(residence halls, rec centers and such) over the past 5 years or so. Same funding level as 17 years ago…

Articles discussing PASSHE study/consolidation…just an FYI for those interested. Kind of an overload but gives a few different perspectives.

Clarion University responds…looks like they are targeted for contraction…

The map also helps: the PA regions will keep a PASSHE school; the problem is where there are several of them in one region, the one school that fails to attract students OR is most in trouble financially may be “contracted”.
Kutztown, Clarion, IUP are likely the ones most in trouble.
It’s terrible for students (and employees), who aren’t responsible for the State’s budget cuts and for the odds decisions made by some of the universities’ leadership.

I would be concerned with CalU, Edinboro, Mansfield and possibly Shippensburg as well.

I think Edinboro and Mansfield have a regional presence that’s justify their continued existence. Especially Mansfield since there are no psu branches nearby.

Good point…perhaps I should have been clearer…maybe a Clarion/Edinboro merger? IUP has a large campus so I can see another school(CalU) being pushed in with them. I don’t see IUP going away with it’s size and somewhat notable history. Having said that(other than they are public universities)…you can see why some of these schools have continued to drop enrollment standards…and that alone is a double edged sword.

Yes, that’s possible. Then there’d be a 'Branch campus '…
