Bloomsburg University was just rated highly by the ETC College Rankings…interesting.

Although I am not intentionally promoting Bloomsburg…I saw another high rating…from the Bloomsburg website.

BU ranks among “Best Bang for the Buck”

Academic Quad

Bloomsburg University was recently named among the top of Washington Monthly’s list for Best Bang for the Buck in the Northeast.

BU ranked at 125 out of 386 colleges and universities on the list, and was the second highest PASSHE school. Washington Monthly ranked their list based on best overall graduation rate, Pell Grant performance, First-generation student performance, earnings performance, and net price in the Northeast schools. Making it the best education for the best price.

BU ranked ahead of Millersville, Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg and Slippery Rock. BU was also listed higher than Temple University, Philadelphia University, Johns Hopkins University, Drexel University, and University of Connecticut. The complete list of rankings are available on Washington Monthly.

Daughter received official notification that she was accepted into Bloomsburg and West Chester today. Along with those two she has heard that she has been accepted into Canisius, John Carroll and IUP. It is a good start. She did receive a letter from Duquesne stating that the major she had applied to has been placed on probation and that they hope to clarify the situation in the near future.

Looks like Mansfield beat Bloomsburg in the Washington Monthly rankings…

We received a letter today from Canisius College stating that effective immediately they have a program that will match the tuition of any out of state flagship. I think it is great for many states but we are residents of PA which allow for a discount but I would prefer to be a resident of WV at the moment.

Time is now to make college affordable…

http://www.philly.com/philly/opinion/20161209_Commentary__Past_time_to_provide_affordable_college_in_Pennsylvania.html

From the above article…

Another reason for high cost is a paucity of affordable state public universities. The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education is by far our most affordable four-year college option, with average tuition and fees of just under $10,000. Yet with only 14 universities in the system, PASSHE is not accessible to enough students. State-related universities - Penn State, Temple, Pitt and Lincoln - have filled the gap by creating over two dozen branch campuses across the state. Yet while they receive hundreds of millions of state dollars annually, these institutions are not held accountable for keeping tuition low. As a result, our state-related universities are the most expensive publicly supported universities in the nation. Average tuition and fees are over $16,000 - nearly double the national average.

BTW, great article on the challenges facing college in PA…here you go!

Looks like the PASSHE strike worries are over for a while…

^On the one hand, those salaries don’t seem very high considering how qualified the people in question are (in fact, basically it means people go from 24K at the bottom to 115k at the very rarefied top, which is low by industry standards). On the other hand, the state budget better increase not just for pay raises but also to encompass student necessities…
and it BETTER NOT be expected students pay with tuition increases. :s

@MYOS1634 …That is my point. The politicians in PA will not allocate more funds or raise taxes, so…Where does the burden fall??? Of course the students will pay more…No doubt

Received academic scholarship information today from Cleveland State. Would provide $7,500/year for 4 years. This would get her OOS COA to about $18,000 which is less than Bloomsburg. This is before athletic scholarship is finalized at Cleveland State.

Interesting…The value of a college degree is increasing according to the Chair of the Federal Reserve…Maybe they want us to take out more loans???

Good suggestion!!!
