3.18 20 ACT Questions

Well, D’s ACT score jumped up to a 23. This should help a little. She wants to take them a few more times.

Going to visit Cleveland State and Youngstown State this week. Better than the PASSHE school and may even cost less.

I don’t think these are really better than PASSHE schools. For better schools your child would have a shot at, look at Bowling Green, perhaps Ohio University, U Cincinnati (depending on major), wku, a suny ?

We have added Baldwin Wallace to the visits as well.

See if you can add Washington&Jefferson if you’re around Pittsburgh, too.

Thank you for the suggestion. Believe it or not, she isn’t interested in W & J because too many kids from her High School go there. You never know??? lol

Daughter really enjoyed Cleveland State…Baldwin Wallace was very nice…not her thing, but I loved it!!!

thanks for the update. What did she like at Cleveland State?

She liked the urban feel. Euclid Avenue(basically the entire university is located on this street) has had a $500 million recent investment in upgrades and new buildings/facilities. The theater section of Cleveland connects to the end of the campus. New dorms…many, many majors…this was all appealing to the eyes of a 16 year old. I enjoyed Baldwin Wallace…great tour, class & well trained staff, met a professor, met with coaches, safe community, great value…everything I could ask for. Town is a bit small.

Thanks!

Isn’t Euclid Avenue pretty dangerous though?

Well…maybe. It is definitely improved. 10 years ago…no doubt. Youngstown state…she really enjoyed it. It was a pleasant surprise . Much money going into upgrades…many majors…DI swimming with a great coach. City still challenged but improving. Her top two are now Canisius and Youngstown State. I would have never guessed that. Lol

Wow, YSU must have REALLY improved… a few years back, it was a combination of gritty, depressed city + ugly campus + majority of poorly prepared/unconcerned students.

It Has improved a great deal. They just opened a new School of Business, New housing (more going up), enhancements all around(not perfect but major improvements)…here is a link to some of the upcoming changes…

“Well, D’s ACT score jumped up to a 23”

This is great. It is a significant improvement. In my opinion, it is still worth trying to improve it another point or two even if she does not need it for admissions. The stronger math english and science skills will enhance her chances of graduating successfully from college.

@Much2learn - thank you. Yes it was an improvement. She took them again last week and took the SAT a few weeks back. Time will tell. I do agree the stronger skills will enhance her likely hood of success. That’s the plan!

Well, she received her SAT score yesterday(1st time taking it). She earned a 1160. Not sure if anyone knows how that truly stacks up against her ACT of 23.
