The same, roughly speaking.
Thank you…I thought it was about the same.
My DS, rising senior, has a plan to work on more test prepping over the summer. The new SAT scores can be imported into the free Khan Academy test prep site and students can practice on their weaknesses. Since your daughter is taking solid college prep courses, I think extra points on both ACT and SAT should be possible with more focused prep. ACT also has an online prep course- not free- but reasonable at $40. It also has a wealth of questions and seems to be worth the price. Your child may need some direction in how to structure her study time with these resources, because the sheer volume of material can be overwhelming.
Thank you for the advice momprof94. The Does anyone have any experience with Gannon University? The compete in the PSAC for swimming with the PASSHE schools but seems to have a better academic reputation.
Interesting articles on students now looking to live at home to save money as well as the cost of extra semesters(check out the video at the end of that article on how IUP’s cost per credit charge will now cost students more money).

Daughter got a 24 on the ACT composite and a 23 on the writing(up from an 18). Now if I can get her to study…lol
Youngstown State University is really changing before our eyes!!! Wow

Had the opportunity to visit John Carroll University with my daughter. Great experience. Beautiful campus, warm reception, detailed tour and just an emphasis on making all things better. 2 hour drive from Pittsburgh, short ride into University Circle in Cleveland. We both loved the experience. Now…if we can just afford it!!!
John Carroll is great Glad she likes it ! And her new, good act score makes it a real possibility.
Loving this thread…the blow-by-blow by bester1 and all the support from the rest of the posters. Interested to see ho it all plays out.
@MYOS1634 - Thanks for the comment. Swim Coach was great and that skill will be an excellent for her to gain acceptance. She is gearing up for the next ACT and thinks she can pull off a 28…lol…I am happy she is believing in herself.
@SevenDad - Thank you for the comment as well. It is an amazing ride. Folks on here have been great. I too can’t wait to see how it plays out. Not that I am in any rush
President Tressel’s impact at YSU is profound.

^ I’m still very dubious about Youngstown as a positive environment for students though. Not the University, but the town.
Latest on the PASSHE looming strike.
Have not read through the entire thread…but I would think about throwing Baldwin Wallace University (Berea, Ohio) in the mix. Gannon immediately came to mind too.
@labegg - Thank you for the note. We have visited both Baldwin Wallace and Gannon. I luved BW but she immediately took it off of her list. My wife attended Gannon, we had a great visit with the coach, good programs but again…scratched off of her list.
We visited University of Rhode Island, WVU and Bloomsburg.
URI - She really liked this school. Nice campus, 15,000 students, she could be on the swim team but in the middle of the pack. Some cool programs…drive from Pittsburgh area to URI really stinks!!! lol. Terrible tour guide. Could not hear a word he said and we were in the very front of the group. No town at all.
WVU - She liked this one but felt it might be a bit too large. Many, many programs. Big time swim team. She could be on the team but not likely a contributor(not sure why she would want to be in that situation). Amazing school spirit and the friendliest students/staff we have encountered thus far. Vibrant town in the hills of WV.
Bloomsburg - She liked it but did not love it. State school stigma. Very nice campus. Buildings were in great shape. Great coach and very willing to have her on the team as a major contributor. Very nice programs. College town with places to eat and such. 10,000 students. Affordable.
bester - I went to york college. Great school.
@fendergirl - Hi…thanks for the note. That was the 1st school she looked at. It was her favorite for a long while. Somehow…she no longer has it on her list. She currently has a top 5 of John Carroll, Canisius, Niagara, Youngstown and Bloomsburg. I thought York College of PA really seemed like a nurturing school. Please tell me about your experience.

Visited Saint Vincent College yesterday for the “Get Acquainted Day”. Excellent program…tour not so good. Daughter is “undecided” so they left out the academic buildings. I did enjoy the school, philosophy and so on. Met academic reps, coaches and so on. Even ended with a banana split. We walk back to the car, get in and my daughter says…“I don’t see myself going here”…help!!! lol. Did anyone else find this process as frustrating? We have looked at many colleges and it is a moving target based more on what her friends say than the actual facts!
