I have a 3.2 GPA Unweighted with a 27 ACT with a 28 on the Math.
I am a junior in a top 3 school in central Ohio.
I want to go into Computer Science and have taken the AP course and received a 4 on it.
I live in Ohio but am willing to go out of state.
Money is not an issue.
What colleges should I apply to?
Iowa, Ohio U, Kansas
What chances do I have with OSU if I improve my act to 30ish. I’ve only taken the ACT once
Your GPA is an issue. Why is it only a 3.2?
If you study a lot on the ACT and get that 3.2 up to like a 3.6+, you might have a good chance at OSU.
I am very intelligent and am brimming with potential but unfortunately I am extremely lazy.

do you realize that you’ll never make it thru CS if you’re extremely lazy.
Have you been tested for ADHD? If not, you need to be.
I have a passion for computer science. I program even now after the class is over lol.
But CS isn’t just programming - you’ll have lots of other classes where you’ll have to do well.
Colleges don’t evaluate “brimming with potential”, but what you did with that potential
But 3.2/ACT27 isn’t bad, especially since your school is high-performing. A higher ACT would serve you well. You could apply undecided to Ohio State and take the CS pre-reqs once you’ve been admitted - it’ll be easier than if you apply straight for CS.
Using the same strategy, you can look into Purdue, U Minnesota Twin Cities, Michigan State, NCSU, Colorado School of Mines, NM School of Mines and Tech, WPI, perhaps RIT. Rowan, Florida Polytech, NJIT, and City Tech would be safeties for you.
What is your weighted GPA?

That is fine, but there are a LOT of difficult math and other classes required for a CS degree. There are programmers out there that can’t get their degrees because, while they enjoy programming, they don’t have what it takes to complete the degree req’ts.
What level of math are you currently taking? What grades are you getting in math?
I am currently taking Calculus and I have a high B in it.
Oh, for crying out loud…
I think that’s a bit extreme, don’t you think?
Taking calculus and getting a high B is a good sign of rigor - good job.
Have you looked into CPP?
If money isn’t an issue, look into Pace University in NYC.
OSU seems to be getting harder to get into. Increasing your ACT score a point or two would help considerably. A strong spring semester would help as well. Colleges like to see students with an upward trajectory in grades. Good job on your calculus work.
Going to a top h.s., you probably have access to good college counselors. Run your situation by them, and see what they suggest.
Do you want to go to a large university, or a smaller private college with a computer science department? If you don’t need a large university there are plenty of outstanding LACs in and around Ohio for which your stats would be fine.

@fractalmstr uh, no. Not extreme at all. I didn’t say the child HAS ADHD. I suggested being tested because of this red flag: “I am very intelligent and am brimming with potential but unfortunately I am extremely lazy.”
If this student does have ADHD then s/he may find that s/he really isn’t “lazy” just has focus and procrastination issues.
