I’m applying to Boston University, Northeastern, University of Maryland, UDel, UMass Amherst, Virginia Tech, Cornell as a reach, Rutgers, William and Mary, Colgate, and RPI

My intended major is Computer Science

Is a 3.4 Unweighted GPA a killer for any applicant?
My SAT Score is 1910 (720 M, 580 CR, 610 W)
Very strong essay
Very strong recommendations
Very strong extracurriculars
I am Pacific Islander and white.
Live in NJ
Everything is strong except for my GPA

Has anyone had some success with stats close to mine? Anyone have any insight?
What are my chances?

Pssh. Lucky. That’s a pretty freaking huge help.

3.4 GPA is not an instant rejection. Your SAT could be higher. but combined with the fact that you’re a pacific Islander, you can get into a lot of those places, especially with really strong essays and recs.

Well it depends on how you categorize yourself. When you fill out the race/ethnicity forms do you just consider yourself “white”? Or do you actually put down “pacific islander”? There is a difference and one would be slightly advantageous to you.

With that being said V Tech, Cornell, William and Mary, and RPI are reaches. The others are in the slight reach to match category.

I’d definitely make a second attempt at both tests if I were in your shoes. Also, given your strength in Math I’d take a swing at the Math II SAT Subject Test. Since you are interest in Comp Sci that could add some strength to your application.
