3.4 UW GPA good CS college

I am a HS rising senior planning to major in computer science. But I am afraid that my terrible gpa will prevent me
from getting into a good school.

my stats
GPA 3.4 (unweighted)
29 ACT(superstore of 30/31) planning on retake
taken all honors and AP classes throughout high school
good EC and REC
attend #1 public HS in Rhode Island

any good college can i get in with my stats

and are there any chance I can get into these schools:

Brown
Carnegie Mellon
University of Washington
UIUC
College Park
University of Wisconsin Madison
UNC Chapel Hill
UVA

PS.
I am visually impaired and a permanent resident(not a citizen)

Money is not a factor

Brown and CMU (CS) are unrealistic.

Most of the public schools listed above would be reaches for you to get into the schools, but the CS major may be significantly more selective than the school (and if you get admitted undeclared, you may have to face a competitive admission process to get into the CS major later).

What’s wrong with University of Rhode Island?

You have almost zero chance at Brown or Carnegie Melon, and only a tiny bit better at the others on your list.

I think your best bet is going to University of Rhode Island.

Other private options:
Clark U, Drexel U, Illinois Institute of Technology, Clarkson U., Stevens Institute of Technology, Florida Institute of Technology

Also, cost constraints?

Post #1 states money is not a factor.

UMass-Lowell is quite strong in CS. I second Stevens. Maybe VATech?

How about WPI?

I’d look at North Carolina state university. they have an excellent and innovative CS department.

Brown out of reach
Carnegie Mellon out of reach
University of Washington reach
UIUC reach
College Park reach
University of Wisconsin Madison reach
UNC Chapel Hill out of reach
UVA out of reach

You need to develop a more realistic list with matches and safeties.

All of the schools you listed are between unrealistic and reaches for a CS major (especially if you are OOS for the public colleges on your list). Agree with above posts that you need to create a realistic list of colleges (certainly you can keep a couple of reach school on your list). Try the following:

  1. Try the supermatch function to the left under find a college.
  2. Get your hands on some college guide books – ex. Fiske, Princeton Review, Insiders Guide and start reading up on other schools that match your academic stats.
  3. When school starts in the fall talk to your guidance counselor about college ideas.

Don’t be discouraged – CS and particularly software engineering is one field where you don’t have to go to a highly prestigious school to have a great and lucrative career, and in fact once you are hired and show you are the goods your sheepskin matters even less. Passion for your craft and hard work wins every single time. Go somewhere you can thrive and succeed and get your MS somewhere else if you are still feeling the need.

To you AND your parents?

Sorry, have to ask. We’ve seen too many write that and later find out that the student meant that money isn’t a factor for the STUDENT because he/she believes that either a lot of aid will be given or that a big student loan can be had.

Are you saying that your parents have said that they’ll pay $65k+ per year for college?

njit is good. If your weighted gpa is above 3.8 (cuz ur oos its a little higher) you can get into rutgers

Check out Rowan University in NJ, and Virginia Commonwealth University in VA. They have good engineering and CS programs, but are not nearly as selective as the schools on your current list.
