What level of colleges can I get into with these stats? I’m worried since my GPA is so low but I want to go to Cornell or Northwestern. Do I have a chance?
Northwestern has a 9% admit rate.
Cornell has a 13% admit rate.
At best, you should assume those are your odds at each of those schools. However, your odds could certainly be lower than those numbers.
Bottom line: You should research other options and apply to the other options. Apply to your two dream schools, but realize as you apply that you have a 90%-97% at being denied at each school.
These would be reach schools. You should certainly apply if they interest you, but be sure to have match and safety schools.
Neither school lists GPA in their CDS, but I suspect they’re similar to those discussed in a different thread - 3.95 average and 96% at 3.75 or higher. Your SAT scoreS would be at the top of either school, providing strength to your application, though schools tend to weigh academic achievement over 4 years, represented by GPA, over a one-day test results (though standardized scores are still in the top 3-4 factors).
You will need very strong essays, recommendations, ECs, etc., etc. to be competitive. And recognize that, with single/low double-digit accept rates, there will be lots of 3.9+, 1550+ applicants that aren’t admitted.
You might have a realistic chance at even highly selective schools such as Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, or Boston College, for example. However, if you would like to reach for colleges on the level you have indicated, you should research a range of potential options: https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/40090323.
Those stats look really good but remember that eevry school has their own admissions.
