As the title says I have a 3.70 UW GPA (I messed up in junior year and got Bs in AP Chem and AP Lang both semesters ). How much would this impact my chances at UC Berkeley and UCLA?

Other stats:

4.32 Weighted GPA
~2150 SAT (770 M/690 CR/690 W)
770 SAT Physics
780 SAT Math II
will take SAT chemistry in october expecting a 750+

AP Tests:
World History (3)
Calc AB (5)
Stats (5)
Chem (4)
Lang (3)

Decent ECs/volunteering/awards and honors…
Assume decent essay.

I plan on applying to college of letters and science so this should help since it’s not impacted. Intended major is haas business administration or econ.

@Catria That makes me feel better, but are you sure? The avg. UW GPA that berkeley accepted this past fall was a 3.9 (much higher than mine) and I got 4 Bs in my junior year which hurts me significantly.

@Shrinkwrap thanks for that! My UCLA chances aren’t that bad. Do you know if anything like this exists for berkeley or something even remotely close.

^ Only UCLA seems to share that level of data, but all the UC’s share something a little more superficial. Google UC whatever admission profile.

I think UCLA would be a more likely school for you, since most people I know with your SAT got into LA and not Berkeley. (Keep in mind that a lot of people also say that UCLA/UCB admission is 50/50–if you get into one, you might not get into the other. I don’t think it’s that true though, because I know plenty of people who got into both). Your weighted GPA can definitely get you into both Berkeley and UCLA, but your unweighted GPA is a bit low. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions! I got into both UC’s myself and would love to help you proofread essays or anything :))

Just a quick note: you can’t apply directly to Haas School of Business. You have you apply to Haas by your second year at Cal; you can apply from any major. I’m not sure how UCLA operates in this regard.

Okay, off to the chancing:

UC’s only calculate your 10th and 11th year grades. If 4.32 is your cumulative, your GPA that UCs look at will likely be lower – you should recalculate it and see where it is. If your 10th + 11th grade fully weighted GPA falls below a 4.2, you don’t have much of a shot at either. Don’t worry about the UW too much… I’m fairly certain that they don’t care about it.

Your application is on the fence for both numbers-wise. Your ECs and possibly essays will make or break it. If you gave more details about those activities, I could give a more wholesome chance, but until then, here’s my verdict:

Letters & Science admission for both schools:
Berkeley: low reach
UCLA: high match

(I’m an engineering student at Cal, by the way)

@ace48225 I’m aware of how Haas works. I apply to college of letters and science, undeclared - pre-business administration. Also, the UW and Weighted GPA I listed are both 10-11. And just to clarify low reach is pretty good right?
