3 Texas Universities

A distant relative of mine might have to re-locate to Texas in the future. He has a child in high school. He is trying to make contingency plans for his child. He is wondering about colleges and universities in Texas.

His son is a strong B-plus/A-minus student. Very good grades in English, social studies and foreign language.s Less so in mathematics and science.

My relative says it is highly unlikely that his son would get accepted to the main branch of the University of Texas. However, there are three universities that he would like his son to consider – St. Mary’s in San Antonio, St. Edward’s in Austin and St. Thomas in Houston. (Yes, he is Catholic and his son has attended Catholic schools)

If anyone know anything about any of these schools, he – and I – would be most appreciative. Thanks!

St. Eds and St. Marys are good schools (I know people that attended each), but have very little reputation even in TX (St. Mary’s more so in San Antonio and surrounding area – you could find lifelong Texans that have never heard of St. Eds). Neither is considered on the same level as the major universities in Texas (UT, A&M, Rice, Baylor, SMU, TCU) or even on the same level as the major LACs in Texas (Austin College, Southwestern, Trinity).

I’ve never heard of St. Thomas.
