I am planning to visit DC for the Inauguration. I thought that since I would have an extra day, while I was there, I could take a look at Georgetown, GW and American, where I applied. Is this possible? I’m not talking about a huge thing. Just a campus tour, maybe a class or something. Even just wandering around campus by myself would be fine. Is it really possible to see 3 schools in 1 day?

It’s very difficult. Not only will it probably be hard to schedule 3 in one day but usually two is very tiring and overwhelming enough. I would spread that over 2 days if you can

My kids and I have done 2 visits in a day many times … tours, eating a meal on campus, hanging out for awhile … after awhile both my kids punted the info sessions (didn’t find them an effective use of time). On many days we added a drive-by or a quick walk-around at a 3rd school … not as good a tour and 1/2 day visit … but a heck of a lot more useful than skipping the school totally.

All 3 of those school are located with 5 miles of each other. Yes, that’s doable. I drove from LA to UCSC and Berkeley in 1 day. That’s over 400 miles of driving. You can Drive from American to Georgetown to GW in 15 minutes. Look at Google maps.

^Parking is a problem at all three. You can walk between GU and GW.

We visited GW and American in a day. I don’t think we could have added a third.

We parked OK at GW, but I think it was expensive.

At American, you can park in the garage under the Katzen Arts Center, across Mass. Ave. from most of the campus. The admission office is in this building, and they validate.

It is hard to go on a tour and attend a class and eat on campus at two in a day. Probably impossible for three. You could do the tour & class maybe at two, and walk around the third. You might be able to walk around one the evening of the inaugeration, then visit the other two the next day.

Some colleges have a walking tour you can print out at the admissions website to do it on your own. Don’t know if these schools do, but you could look if you plan to do one in the evening.

Use the trip planner feature to find the best combo of bus, Metro, and walking. If you start early in the day at one, you can hit all three.

Some are also reachable by one of the [Home | DC Circulator](http://Www.dccirculator.com) lines. Get a Metro smart trip card to save the headache of digging for exact change for the buses and Metro.

Can you do it? Sure, probably. Even if you only wanted to spend 6 hours total, you could do 2 hours at each place (add travel time, of course.)

Can you do it meaningfully, absorbing the full feel of a school and reflecting on the experience in a worthwhile way? I don’t think so. I think you should only visit one school a day, but at most two if you are really crunched for time.

Thanks. I think I’m going to attempt it although I know it will be hard. I don’t care about American THAT much. I have a friend who goes there who can quickly show me around. I really just want to see the campus for myself because I wasn’t sure I liked it from what I saw online. And I’d like to see GW but I mostly just want to stop by so I can “demonstrate interest”. Not that I’m not interested in the schools, but I think I found out all I need to know about academics and the like online. I don’t see the point of sitting in on a class. And sure I’ll grab a meal in the cafeteria if I happen to be there, but it’s not like food is going to be a huge factor in my decision.

I think two is the maximum you can manage without cutting any of them short. My girls never sat in on any classes either on tours or visits specifically for admitted students.
You also need to get a feel for the campus and the students there to see if you can envision yourself being part of it

I say, start early, and plan to keep going until fairly late, do your best to hit all three. You may well walk onto one of the campuses and think “No way ever.” and be able to head straight on to the next one. You also would have the option to linger if you really want to. If you have an appointment with anyone at any of the campuses, carry your cell with you so you can cancel or reschedule if you need to.
