30 ACT. Is it all over for me?

I have a 30 ACT.
Is that too terrible for Harvard?
I mean, I have amazing everything else, multiple presidencies, dedicated band member, varsity track runner, county fair queen, ranked first in my class, etc
I even am a first generation afghan american WITH me being the first woman in my family to get ANY sort of education period.

I applied EA.
And I want to cry.
My entire school and community (VERY small town) knows about me, and I just can't face them without acceptance...
Is it all over?

Please Comment. :)

It's not over, but it's not good.

Relax. Not getting into Harvard is not the end of the world. I dislike it when people are so obsessed with getting into Harvard and think that they are failures for not getting in. Harvard is perhaps the most competitive school in the country. There are SO many other great schools out there where you would succeed and be happy. RELAX. jesus christ.

Your scores are in the lowest quartile for admission, which does limit your chances. You mention all of your activities (which are wonderful) but Harvard is going to want to see that you have a solid intellectual foundation and academic interests.
Make sure to highlight those strengths too!

Okay, I know it is not the end of the world. I just really want it. And there is no crime for really wanting something. People are entitled to dream.
And I do have back up schools, I am not an idiot.

and THANK YOU thumzup. I hope I did that well enough. :)

I know what you mean...I submitted my EA app with a 31 :(

Hopefully everything else will override the low score for both of us. Did you submit any supplementary materials?

Yes, but it's not worth crying over and being "unable to face your school and community" simply because you didn't get into Harvard.

Okay fine, that was a bit of an exaggeration, I just don't WANT to face them because I am waaayy to prideful for my own good. So I'm immature..

Yes I did. Another essay. But nothing else. Any yourself?
Oh and me freaking too. Maybe since this is the first year Harvard has done EA in a while, we have a better chance? IDK.... lol

Haha I totally understand that :P. Just don't seem too prideful so if you're rejected, it won't be bad.

Anyway, judging from what you said, you still have a decent shot at Harvard. You should retake the ACT/SAT and maybe apply regular? Or at least retake if you're applying to other ivies.

Yeah, not a single friend knows I'm applying early because I have the same fear ;)

I sent in a research abstract, extra rec from mentor, and a supplementary essay. I wish I had something non-academic, though.

A better question is -- why do you want to get into Harvard so bad? :)

I got this one :)
People in Afghanistan believe that all woman are gOod only for cooking, cleaning, and raising children. I believe that by becoming an oncologist, I can prove to the Afghan people that there is no such thing as "because I am a woman." There is only "because I am a person." I have the ability to accomplish as much as any other person given the same opportunities.
Also, I come from a very small school who focuses mainly on sports and would love to be in such an intellectually stimulating environment :)
That afghan bit was in my common app essay :)

Hey, if you've done all that I'm sure you can succeed anywhere. Don't let the mystical aura of Harvard bring you down!

As you know, with a 30, it really is a reach :c But stranger things have happened...

Bbbbbbbbuuuuummmmmppppppppppp :)

You definitely have SOME chance, since you applied. But anything below a 32 will make it VERY hard to be accepted without a major hook. Good luck though! If you don't get in it won't be the end of the world.

Bbbuummmmmmmmmmmmmppp

No guarantees even with much higher ACT scores... so see what happens and make sure to apply to some match schools. (Ivys are not a match for anyone).

Also, you do not need to make excused to your community. Apply where you want and just report where you decide is a good fit for you to go.

Afghan American is your hook. I think the top schools will like that.
