Our 30th anniversary is ahead and I’m contemplating giving DH one gift each day for the 30 days leading up to our anniversary. However, we are empty nesters and have no desire to accumulate “stuff” so I’m thinking mostly about edibles or consumables.
I’ve thought of:
a single rose (can repeat this a few times)
a single favorite candy from Sees (can repeat this a few times)
Penzy spices (dh loves to cook and I’ve been meaning to upgrade but was waiting for a gift opportunity)
maybe a ‘coupon’ for a foot massage/back massage, etc.
DH is an avid reader but only uses his ereader now so books are out.
Anyone have other suggestions? Would love to hear some creative suggestions!
You could do experiences too - movie date, go out for an ice cream after dinner, make a theme dinner (Italian, Mexican), concert tickets, golf at a new course, gourmet popcorn for movie night at home. Detail his car. Take him to lunch near his office one day.
OMG what a great idea ! Jar of candied pecans or other nuts, carwash/detail certificate, rent his favorite “man” movie, favorite cologne, a night away, sports tickets for a game during the 30 days, one kiss the first day, two kisses the second day, three…you get the idea. Could be quite the session on day 30 lol.
I once gave DH a mixed case of wine, a bottle for each year we’d been married. He said it was one of the best gifts ever. So I’d recommend adding into your selection a bottle of wine or some microbrewed beer if he drinks.
Depending on the kind of things he likes to read, you might also consider a subscription to New York Review of Books or Granta.
Make sure one or more of the daily “gifts” is a donation to your shared favorite charity, or one that is exceptionally needy right now, like the American Red Cross…
My H would love all of these ideas! On the cooking front there are also some fun gadgets.
Or along the spice path maybe some exotic noodles or another new taste treat to try–a different basalmic vinegar or fancy oil.
Flowers are nice! But if can find a cute small bud-type vase and put a flower in it from your garden or yard that’s even nicer.
Get more than one and put them in the kitchen and bathroom. Takes no room and easily filled–could be just a colorful weed that’s fun to look at.
For a special birthday, DH found a place that put my first name on the label as the name of the wine. The vintage was what they were bottling at that time, of my favorite varietal. I got a case of MyName, 2005 varietal, xyz vitner. Very impressive.
Actually, @BunsenBurner or anyone else, can you gift someone an ebook? How does that work and can you buy it in advance and schedule the notification/upload for a certain day?
I’m also trying to think through the options for wine. DH is a huge wine lover and we may be putting in a dedicated wine area in our upcoming remodel. I’m not that into wine but I know enough to know that getting a bottle of wine from each year we’ve been married is not an option.
