31 ACT vs 1380 SAT

31 ACT: 34 writing, 30 math, 32 science, 28 reading
1380 SAT: 710 reading/writing, 670 math

which should I send to colleges? I am applying to William and Mary, UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, Vanderbilt, Berkeley, and NC State.

Can you send both? I’m unsure exactly how it works. However, if you must pick one, I would send the 31 ACT score since it converts to about a 1430 on the new sat.SAT scores were generally preferred more in the east while ACT was used in the west but nowadays both tests are considered equally important. On a side note, Berkeley act scores range from 29-34 so a 31 puts you in the ballpark.

You can find SAT ACT conversion charts online. If the two scores are in the same ballpark you might send both since your SAT reading sore is higher. You can also google the average ACT scores for each school you are considering (I would think you are on the low side for schools like Duke & Vandy)

ACT 34 and SAT 1540, assuming really good everything else

for which one(s)?

For which one(s)?

Go to collegeboard and look for the SAT ranges of these schools. Target the 25th percentile (low end of the mid 50% range) as the minimum IF you are - a URM, “recruited” athletes, or kids of famous parents - otherwise, target the middle of the 50% range as a general guide - but if you are Asian, then you better off move the scores into the upper half of the middle 50%. This is just for the scores alone, and assuming the rest of the application is decent/good. JMHO

^^^^If you have no hook, I’d target at least the 50%th percentile not the 25%th percentile (assuming the rest of your application is of the quality expected by the schools on your list). But understand that even a perfect score is no guarantee of admission.

And be sure to include reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable and that you would be happy to attend on your application list.

Also, for the public schools, plan to need even better stats to get admitted as an out-of-state student.

Good luck!

UCB is the only UC that accepts LOR’s by invitation only.

UCB’s Freshman profile for 2016: Updated 2017 will be available in August.

Much will depend upon major but unless you have a hook, you want to be at the 50th percentile or higher for the best chances.

GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students

High School UC GPA (capped weighted): 4.12 - 4.30
ACT Composite Score: 30 - 34
SAT Critical Reading: 630 - 750
SAT Mathematics: 660 - 780

UCSD Freshman Profile 2016:
GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students

High School UC GPA (capped weighted): 4.00 - 4.27
ACT Composite Score: 28 - 33
SAT Critical Reading: 590 - 720
SAT Mathematics: 630 - 770
Again, stats will dependent upon major.

Remember, also, that many of these colleges do have recruited athletes, international students whose first language is not English, children of wealthy benefactors, et al. If you aren’t in any of those categories, you probably shouldn’t apply if you aren’t at the mid-percentile.

I know someone who got into UCSD with a 26 ACT. Not all UCs are created equal (although all are good). Probably need at least a 30 realistically for Cal Berkeley

What would be minimum SAT and ACT scores that would be considered good enough to get in for each of the colleges below? (From North Carolina) (Assuming extremely good transcript, recommendations and essay):

UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UNC chapel hill, William and Mary, George Washington, Duke, Brown, Vanderbilt.
