34 on ACT or 2190 on SAT? Serious Concern.

The 34 does correspond to a 2250 on the SAT if I am right, which higher than the 2190, but isn’t it true that the SAT is preferred over the ACT?

And a more important question :

I will apply from INDIA this admission season. SAT is much, MUCH more common than the ACT. The coaching institutes for the SAT don’t even know that the ACT exists. That worries me, because I think our applications are read by a admissions person (alumni or head of admissions in the country) from India FIRST, where they are screened and THEN sent to the respective university. (atleast this is how the Brown admissions process works)

If the person does not know about the ACT, then I will be in a tangle.

Should I send both or ONLY the ACT?

Because from what i know, and from **silverturtle’s **analysis, a comparatively ‘small difference’ can have big implications in the chances of being admitted.

Thank you!

Send in both but no, the SAT is not “prefered” over the ACT. A 34 is higher than a 2190 and colleges will see that.

I would just send both. If the admission officer works for the college, they have to know what the ACT is.

Lol ACT is used mostly on East Coast, which is probably where you are applying for schools, perhaps Ivy if I may guess. So do not worry, your 34 ACT will be more than happily accepted; that score is very good and the difference from 2250 to 2190 is only 60 points = 20 point margin in each section.

^ SAT is mostly used on the East Coast. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5b/SAT-ACT_Preference_Map.svg

@OP- Send both.

ACT is mostly used in the midwest, but ALL colleges accept both. I’ve only seen one college with a preference (in CA) and it was for the ACT.
