3rd year Cal State vs. 4th year UC- chances?

My dd did her first 2 years at a CC. She applied and got rejected from UCLA and USC. She has been waitlisted at UCI and UCSD. She was advised to apply to Econ with a 3.4 major by her councilors at the CC- big mistake. Anyhow now we need to prepare for the worst case scenario. If she doesn’t get off the waitlist- what do we do. We have 2 choices.

  1. She applies for spring semester to the Cal States or Chapman University
  2. She spends another year at CC- changes her major to one that she can do much better in- and re-applys to the UC's for fall 2016.

We just can’t figure out which direction to go in. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

3.4 should have resulted in admission if she had applied more widely in the first place.

Yes agreed @ucbalumnus , but what’s done is done. Can’t change the past which is why we need to figure out which direction is best for the future.

With a 3.4, she should have been able to TAG into UCI. Something doesn’t sound right to me…

Anyhow - UCM admits Spring TAG applicants.

This site suggest other UCs may be open to Winter/Spring TAG applicants as well.

Help her check directly with each campus and develop a path forward.

Also, not all CSUs offer Spring transfer - and it varies year to year.

If she really wants a UC just stay one more year and reapply. I’m a mom and that’s what I would do anyhow.

Thanks for the advice guys. She really does want to go into a UC.
