4.5 hour Jet Blue delay!

Flying out of JFK and flight was delayed several times because of “equipment issues.” Why don’t their planes work? Why don’t they have more planes that work? I went to the gate agent; she said “see customer service” (a man standing 2 feet away). Stood in line for him; he said “see Just Ask” near the juice stand. Stood in line there; was told to see the gate agent.

At least they haven’t put me in an overhead bin. Yet.

Not sure about the US, but I got $250 per flyer payment for a 4+ hour delay in the UK

I was delayed about an hour last month on my Jet Blue flight due to a equipment issue. Turned out it was a problem with an O ring. Everyone on flight immediately thought of the Challenger disaster and no one complained at all about the delay. We had no AC but no one minded about that either.

That is looking at the silver lining, there, that at least you aren’t in the overhead bin. Or a cargo compartment. Or dragged away bleeding.

:open_mouth:

The EU has much more stringent and passenger-friendly laws than the US. Over here, just about the only delay that airlines are required by law to compensate passengers for is involuntary bumping.

Last year I had an AA flight cancelled and the only one I could get rebooked on was about 8 hours later. I sent in a complaint later and they gave me some frequent flyer miles out of the goodness of their hearts.

Didn’t JFK have 2/3rds of its flights cancelled this week? It takes most airlines several days to get all the right equipment to the right airports. If an aircraft isn’t able to go, they might not have a backup.

I had a flight on Thursday and ended up volunteering to get on a different flight, but both flights ended up with some delay. I think the snow this week screwed a lot up.

Yesterday JFK, like most of the airports in the tristate area, was recovering from 14 inches of snow the day before.

The “equipment issues” may very well have been a plane that was in another part of the country, stranded because of weather and/or related issues.

I can see how there would still be some serious residual delays.

I flew JetBlue Boston - Las Vegas a few years ago - five hour delay, including needing to find a new crew because the original crew “timed out.”

Then, when airborn, there was a medical emergency – fortunately we did not have to land for that.

They gave out snack trays for free and I believe I eventually received a $150 JetBlue travel voucher.

Thanks all for posting. Update: They announced we wouldn’t be leaving until 9:30 (which would have made it a 6 hour delay) and everyone started complaining, loudly. Miraculously they adjusted it to 8:30 (5 hour delay) and we actually finally took off. I got a $150 travel voucher.

I think there are so many things outside their control (weather, equipment, flight crew # hours) but I wish they had been better at communicating.
