4 weeks in a new city - what would you do?

I am trying to figure out what to do with myself between the end of my summer program and moving to graduate school. Here’s the situation:

no local friends or family

no prior time commitments

limited budget (enough to live comfortably, not enough for endless entertainment)

I will leave after 4 weeks, so I can’t make any long-term commitments

How would you spend your time if you were in my shoes?

I would couch surf my way around the city to get to meet new people, not have to pay for lodging, and go “off the beaten path.”

Personally, I would volunteer somewhere. There are a lot of cool groups who need volunteers who can make significant weekly time commitments (even if it’s not for the long term), something that you often don’t have time for when in school/working.

tripadvisor.dot.com … look up city and “things to do” lots of ideas with good and bad recommendations.

Teach English or GED prep at any number of organizations that need help with these programs, always looking for tutor volunteers.

call a local political office and see if they need any volunteer help …
