If youre a visual learner like myself, then you know maps, charts and info graphics can really help bring data and information to life. Maps can make a point resonate with readers and this collection aims to do just that.

Hopefully some of these maps will surprise you and youll learn something new. A few are important to know, some interpret and display data in a beautiful or creative way, and a few may even make you chuckle or shake your head.

I saw this online and found it fascinating. Any one of these 40 maps could spark a really interesting CC discussion. Enjoy!

These are great! Thank you so much for posting!

Very interesting! No mention of map projections though - the one we normally see (Mercator map) vastly distorts the actual relative landmasses of different countries.

The Peters Projection map is optimised to show landmass instead, and has implications for how we view the world [Gall?Peters projection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](<a href=“http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gall–Peters_projection]Gall?Peters ”>Gall–Peters projection - Wikipedia )

The population and vegetation maps scare me.

I love the surname map. Our name is one of those common names.

I love maps, too! Thanks for sharing this link.

The one that surprised me was the map of the highest paid public employees by state. Shameful.
The one that made me LOL was the map of Europe showing literal Chinese translations for country names. “Insurance Profit-Ya”?

Just shared this with some folks. Good stuff!
