4th of July, Should We Laugh Or Cry?

Who cares what show he was on? Does that change the fact we have a lot of uneducated dolts in this country?

Wait…why is this video of importance again?

It’s important because it’s the 4th of July holiday and a lot of Americans are completely clueless about US History. You don’t think it’s important for citizens to have a rudimentary knowledge of history?

*Acturate number needed.

It would be nice for every citizen to have “rudimentary” knowledge of our history.

Do you expect a positive outcome from having a high percentage of low information voters/workers?

What’s this “high” percentage?

I’ll give you some research. It’s from 1999.
<a href=“New Poll Gauges Americans' General Knowledge Levels”>http://www.gallup.com/poll/3742/new-poll-gauges-americans-general-knowledge-levels.aspx

From 2011:
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/07/almost-a-fourth-of-americans-do-not-know-when-america-declared-independence/

Here’s some facts that some posters in here can learn so they can feel smarter than others:
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/07/04/10-things-might-not-know-about-our-independence/

I suggest anyone who fully believes this video to do it themselves. You’ll have a more accurate belief in what’s actually going on.

“High percentage” is a relative term. Ideally all votes would have a basic knowledge of US history.

Ever seen the graduation rates in our inner cities?

Yes, what about them?

riprorin, I agree with you. We have a lot of “uneducated dolts” in this country. People who use religion or their own personal beliefs to deny scientific facts (i.e., climate change). People who have only a simplistic grasp of the Constitution, yet indignantly insist that their interpretation of it is correct even when legal scholars and/or the Supreme Court disagree. People who are not able to think critically about issues or see more than their own narrow perspective. It has gotten pretty bad.

I lived in Rochester, NY and the graduation rate in the city schools was about 35 - 40%.

God bless USA!

Ok, and where are you getting at with this?

My only point in this thread is that you can’t use this video as proof that “a lot” of Americans are stupid. Why? Because this is the video’s purpose. It’s goal. It was constructed to get and exploit stupid answers.

God, help us all.

What am I getting at? Seriously?

Are you trying to make a connection between inner city graduation rates and a video of people on a boardwalk answering question incorrectly?

Yeah, that looked a lot more like an affluent area of southern California than inner-city Rochester to me…call me crazy.

Not to mention, how do we have any evidence at all that these people weren’t actors?

Man made climate change has been debunked. It worked for Al Gore though. I think he’s worth about $250M. Nice scam, dumb down the populace and then profit from their stupidity.

If you really want to know whether to be concened, take the quiz below and also the one on current events at that same website. It will allow you to compare your knowledge about science and current events and see how others randomly chosen did, stratified along various demographics–age, gender, education.

Wish they were actors.

I don’t think Rochester is unusual. It was just an example.

Thanks for the test, HI.

I must say, although these seem common knowledge. I can see why some people don’t give a crap about whether an electron is set than an atom.

WRONG, riprorin. Something like 95% of the world’s leading climatologists agree that humans have caused climate change.
