A big problem is the teacher’s unions which block competition and reform. It’s tragic that kids are trapped in crappy schools.

You still haven’t answered my question, riprorin.

I like how global warming has become climate change now…I guess it increases the odds of being true

Sally, so who are these 95%? When engineers and geoscientists are poled, it’s 36%.

Global warming is a money grab by politicians.

You are aware that there have beem multiple ice ages before man, right?

re #78 - that is one easy quiz. Fun to see the results! The youngest cohort (18-29) performed best, implying that someone is teaching science adequately somewhere. The middle-aged/latter-day Boomer group (50-64) came in second.

Now, the Pew Research Center tells us that the survey results are from 1006 randomly sampled adults. I am prepared to believe them, because that’s what they do. If Mr. Dice told us that his film was based on a random sample … well, I probably would not believe him, given that he appears to be a huckster of some sort. But I don’t think he has made any such claim. He may not know what one is, or he may just have wanted to entertain people or reinforce what some already believe.

Finally a quiz that doesn’t care if I know the name of jay-Z new album or his baby!

I got 13 for 13!
It’s not that hard .
:)

Btw climate change is more accurate than global warming because every time we have a “ice storm of the century” those who would deny that defoliating the planet has any effect on weather pipe up with " I thought it was global warming".

RIPRORIN said “In all honesty, I would be a great juror in this case. I am a scientist, so I view things analytically.”

your fellow scientists;

Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities,1and most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position. The following is a partial list of these organizations, along with links to their published statements and a selection of related resources.

[Climate Change: Consensus](http://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus)

Only 38% of engineers and geoscientists believe global warming is man made. Actually, there is a growing concern about global cooling and another little ice age.

A lot of smart people in the National Academy of Sciences. Heres how they get in: [Overview: Membership](Overview: Membership)

They dont seem to think that man made climate change has been debunked (post 77):

Rip, did you link to something that said that already and I missed it? I’ve seen you list that number several times now but no link.

so RIPRORIN–you simply refute the sources we post, repeat your own OPINION, with no source. got it.

you said you were a scientist, so um, just exactly what kind of scientist are you now?

I’m glad I’m not only who has seen this happen over and over and over again.

kind of ironic, given the thread that RIP started here, mocking others for their ignorance;)

I’m not going to fight a war of links with you. There is not a consensus on man made global warming and even if there were, it doesn’t make it so.

Lord Moncton among many others have challenged Al Gore to debate the science of global warming and he’s consistently refused to do so.

Ever ask yourself why?

Ah here we go:
[Peer-Reviewed Survey Finds Majority Of Scientists Skeptical Of Global Warming Crisis - Forbes](http://www.forbes.com/sites/jamestaylor/2013/02/13/peer-reviewed-survey-finds-majority-of-scientists-skeptical-of-global-warming-crisis/)

The comments do a pretty good job of discrediting the original “data”. I don’t really care to read the whole of this: [Science or Science Fiction? Professionals? Discursive Construction of Climate Change](http://oss.sagepub.com/content/33/11/1477.full)

In other words… sources? Who needs those when I have SOUNDBITES!

Is that what you call it?

Credible sources and research builds your reputation as a credible poster. If you shout out statistics, don’t be surprised when someone want the link to the study of which you got your numbers from.

Thank, romani. I did a quick search of “38% of engineering believe in global warming” and found the exact link.

rip, you do know the Koch brothers are behind a lot of “vows” and “pacts” among congresspeople and others to refuse to research climate change?

but what kind of scientist doesn’t rely on well, SCIENCE

seriously, what is your field of scientific study?? You identified yourself as a scientist in a post, so please, inquiring minds want to know?
