I’m currently a sophomore (3rd semester) at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. I’d like to transfer for the Fall 2011 semester, and I was wondering how it would help/hurt my chances to do my next semester at the Community College of Rhode Island, where I’m originally from. I’d like to save the money, and I know some schools (Amherst, for example) end up accepting a good deal of students from community colleges. I would look to transfer for next spring, but some of the schools I’m interested in (Brown, Columbia) only take applications for the fall. Also, the time spent at home would give me an opportunity to really focus on my application and make it the best that it can be.
I’d be happy to provide stats if anyone thinks that they would be relevant to answering this specific question.
Thanks a lot!

Maybe I should make it a more general question: does a semester of community college (after time at a public institution) affect one’s chances of getting accepted as a transfer for the following semester?

Could I just get a little bit of advice?

I remember hearing about cases in which Brown did take CCRI students. I don’t think it would be a knock against you.

Do whatever feels right. If you feel the 401 would make you a better student, then come here.

401 ftw!!!
