I’m looking for a five day warm weather destination, probably the last week of February or so. Would love an all inclusive. I’ve seen some in Punta Cana and Cancun. Any suggestions? We would fly out of Hartford.

Also, anyone ever book a vacation through BJs?

Thumper: I just pulled the trigger on my end of February vacation. We ended up picking Jamaica (Negril.) We booked for 7 days/6 nights; when I still thought it was going to be 5 nights, I was leaning towards Montego Bay so the transport to/from the airport to the hotel would be shorter; Iberostar Grand Rose Hall was recommended by a lot of folks including here on CC. We stayed at Hilton Rose Hall a few years ago & I’d stay there again.

Punta Cana (D.R.) was a close second, but I wanted calm waters and that seemed to vary from resort to resort; there was also a lot of talk about aggressive beach vendors on Trip Advisor. I had it narrowed down to Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro, and Barcelo Bavaro Beach Royale.

We went to Rivera Maya a few years ago (Barcelo Maya Beach) and enjoyed it.

I just booked through Costco, so I’d think that BJ’s would probably be similar. The package ended up coming in the cheapest, and had some extras (a $100 off resort tour credit, the Club MoBay departure service) and I was able to add travel insurance for only $32/person.

We stayed at an iberostar in riviera Maya several years ago. It was very nice but I would not recommend Mexico these days. I’m sure their other properties are very nice also. I would recommend going for middle of the road if they have multiple resorts to choose from. We didn’t want to eat only at the buffet, but we didn’t need top of the line either. We did one below the highest at our complex.

We liked Cancun, Cozumel etc. a few decades ago, but then we found Huatulco. It’s getting “big” fast, like today’s Cancun and Cozumel. I actually always enjoy Miami’s South Beach for a short vacation.

I want to do almost exactly what you are doing. It is so dang cold out here!!!
Warm weather, Feb, all inclusive would be nice. But I’m a little turned off Mexico and Jamaica/DR…something more first world would be good. Though I’m kind of cheap. Always looking for a deal, airline discount for a nice place. I’m looking forward to reading this thread. It might get me through the winter!

Busdriver: It’s been easier to deal with the unseasonably cold weather the past few days knowing that there’s a beautiful beach & swim up bar waiting for me in less than 3 months ;)

As for the “more first world” I’d also looked into the Bahamas, but apparently it can be a little chilly in February so that was out. Turks & Caicos, Antigua and Saint Lucia flirted with me, but ended up being a bit of a pain in the tush with regards to flights plus they were more $$$.

Yes, Rob, that would make it all tolerable! I would love to find something to look forward to. I am so sick of cold, and sick of working, blah!

So I looked up those three places, didn’t find anything for Turks and Caicos, but found a 3 star all inclusive for $115 night in both St Lucia and Antigua. Found a pretty nice 4 star for $149 night (per person) in St Lucia. We can probably get our flights for free. Wondering if those are good prices. What about those places appeals? Warm, nice and pretty? Nothing wrong with that!

RobD - which resort did you choose in Negril? Maybe I missed the name. I love Jamaica and have traveled there several times. I prefer not to go all inclusive because I love eating at different restaurants at different locations along the beach and the cliffs. For my next trip there, I will stay in the mountains rather than on the ocean.

I used the TripAdvisor and Oyster sites to check out places that looked intriguing. Of course, there’s always the possibility of going to a internet forum just to get some info about 1 thing and staying for years and thousands of posts (cough, cough)

Now at the top of the page, cc is showing an advertisement for Sandals. What is someone reading these posts? Or just reading my mind. Sandals resorts look pretty appealing.

It’s funny how every time I search for something, it magically shows up on here. Sometimes when I’m just talking with my husband about something…there it is. Freaky!
