5 Wolverine FB commits are HS All-Americans

USA today released its preseason High School All-American team today. Five members of that “team” are verbally committed to the Michigan Wolverines:

George Campbell, WR, East Lake HS, Tarpon Springs, FL
Drake Harris, WR, Grand Rapids Christian HS
Mason Cole, OL, East Lake HS, Tarpon Springs, FL
Michael Ferns, LB, St. Clairsville (OH) HS
Jabrill Peppers, DB, Paramus (NJ) HS

A possible sixth, Da’Shawn Hand, DL, Woodbridge (VA) HS is uncommitted but said to be leaning Michigan, and a longshot seventh is RB Leonard Forunette, St. Augustine HS, New Orleans, LA has expressed some interest in Michigan but is believed to be leaning toward LSU.

At this point, no other college has more than two members of this squad.

Bright days ahead for Michigan football!

Definitely looks good. I am not sure why USA today have players from from the classes of 2014 and 2015, but it is clear that Hoke is recruiting well. Hopefully, we can have a similar game against Notre Dame to the one we had against them in 2011.

I don’t think it’s that unusual to have a high school All-American team made up of juniors and seniors, do you? In college you sometimes get not only juniors and seniors but also sophomores and the occasional freshman named to All-American teams. USA Today announced a preseason HS All-American team. Not surprisingly, it’s too early to project any rising freshmen or sophomores to that team, so it’s all juniors and seniors, based no doubt on the same stats and video that college recruiters are looking at.

There is no doubting George Campbell. His 4.36 speed is legitimate. Along with his 6’4", 180 frame, it makes him a very special athlete. I cannot wait to see Harris and Campbell on the field at the same time.
