The 50 Best Places To Work in 2014 - do you work at one of them?? If so, do you agree/disagree? If it IS a great place to work, share why. Your choice if you want to reveal the actual company.

Disclosure: I do NOT work at one of these places!!! :)

I used to work at a company that was on the list a couple of years ago. In light of the fact that the perks only applied to the very, very top level of partners/directors, I always wonder what the deal is for ordinary employees at the listed companies. I hope there are some CC posters with insight into this!

I can’t imagine a better place to work than where I work, but I suspect people not at the corporate HQ might feel differently, although morale is incredibly high and the company has had 4 years of record earnings. To me, what makes it good is ethics of senior management, concern for all levels of employees, watching the bottom line closely and no lavish spending but still willing to do things for the employees, open communication, good benefits and good bonus plan.

I did not even have to look at the list, I knew my employer is not going to be there.

For the record my employer is doing great and is a darling of the Wall Street. However this comes at the expense of the employees. Employee morale is very low. Whenever we get together outside of work, we all b.tch and moan about how much our employer sucks.

When I pull into the parking lot at work in the morning, I smile. My job is demanding and can be intense, but the fact that I smile tells me I work somewhere great.

There is only one firm on that list that is even in my same industry. And I don’t happen to work for that particular firm so I guess my answer will always be No for the foreseeable future.

Interesting point about comparing the “happiness” of top level positions over the regular working folk. It just a curiosity to me - what things make these top 50 so great? How much better than average are the perks, vacation days, child care activities or whatever??

I work at a university/hospital system and over the years it’s definitely lacking in “perks” IMO!

I used to work for one of the companies on the list- Texas Instruments- but it was a long time ago. It was a good place to work. It was one of the pioneers of corporate fitness and had really complete fitness centers at all the TI plants at a VERY low cost to the employees. Subsidized cafeteria and, now, I think, childcare.
