Strivectin SD. I bought at a GNC health store. Still close to 100$$$ for a very large tube. I had hysterectomy so skin just turned to leather right after that. Strivectin was the only product that brought the skin back and actually made it better than before. Minus 10 to 15 years. I was using Olay and Vitimin C from whole foods, Vitamin E and occasionally shea butter. Strivectin beat all those products. I have very sensitive skin with roseacea and it works very smoothly for me.

Justamom, I’m with you, I had oily skin for so long I can’t believe I’m supposed to put something on it now. I do stay out of the sun after a couple of brushes with skin cancer.

Had been using the Dr. Hauschka lotion, but after the dermatologist removed a second pre-cancerous dry spot, I switched to the Cetaphil facial moisturizer because it has sunscreen built in. At the beach I use additional sunblock, but I couldn’t just use that as a daily face lotion – way too greasy.

I’m also one of those people who has always had oily skin but now I see that my skin is actually flaky AND oily. Nice. Has anyone found a product for that lovely combination?

Renova has a more emollient cream base than straight Retin A. I use it every other day to reduce skin irritation. A bit of skin flakiness is actually a good thing since the dead cells are being sloughed off and new cells are taking their place.

I’m not 50 yet, but I’ll tell you what I discovered. If your skin is suddenly dry, or dry and flaky, it could be an allergy to a product, or eczema.

My hands were always red and the skin looked saurian (roar). Someone told me to try Benadryl cream and I thought that was weird, because benadryl is dry. What do you know – it helped a lot. Now I use Cortaid or benadryl on those dry areas. Try those products and see if they help for you!

I don’t believe that dermatologist that said that EVERY woman over 50 needs retinoid. It takes protective layers of the skin off and makes it more exposed to sun damage. For those of us who are out in the sun a lot, that’s a mistake. I use ‘industrial’ sunscreen, but it can’t protect against all sun damage.

mousegray :I recommend some kind of gentle exfoliating agent to get rid of the flakiness - maybe a salicylic acid mask or lotion ? I just crush two generic ASA tablets- put it in some aloe vera lotion and put it on my face for a mask.

Then use a non- greasy/oily moisturizer - I like Cerave, you can find it in Walgreens, CVS or RiteAid.

Good but frustrating thread. I swear if there were something that worked well for everyone we’d all be using it. I’ve tried one bajillion things over the years, and still don’t have a preference. I can tell you I read an article by a dermatologist years ago who said women only need three things–Cetaphil cleanser, La Mer face cream, and sunblock. I’ve tried La Mer several times but find it really heavy (not to mention the huge bucks). I also read somewhere that you need to give any new skin regimen six months of consistent use before really passing judgment, but I don’t think I’m that patient.

I want the magic bullet.

My dermatologist did say that Renova is gentler than straight Retin A.
TheresaCPA: The Strivectin SD sounds interesting. I may check that out.
I want the magic bullet too!

Oil of Olay - BayBEE!!! All the way, all my adult life. I didn’t have big problems as a teen (oily, average blemishes), but I have GREAT skin now. People comment on it. NO wrinkles. I heard someone ask a VERY elderly woman at a store the other day what she used…and it was Oil of Olay too. Any of their products. I’m using Regenerist right now (post-menopausal, post-cancer/chemo treatments which reeks havoc on your skin, and I’m taking Aromasin to prevent cancer recurrance and it sucks ALL the little remaining estrogen from your body but my skin is not changing). I even tried a special “post chemo” type skin treatment. It was nothing compared to Oil of Olay products. I’m sure everyone has different things that work for them as we’re all hormonal/chemically different. But whenever I see someone that I think looks great…I hear the same answer - Oil of Olay. I have very sensitive skin too (itchy, rashes, etc.) and used to have a terrible time using stage make-up as I was an actor as a young adult. I tried Pro-Activ once and it burned the heck out of my face. Awful stuff. But…Oil of Olay…all the way. Can’t say enough good about it. Easy on the pocket book and it’s GREAT! I love to find them “department store” gems when sometimes you have to pay SO much to get good products. But not this one.

I could never use Oil of Olay lotion, it made my skin flush- I suspect it was one of the fragrances.

I do have good fascia ( the tissue beneath skin between muscle and bone) and don’t have any noticable cellulite or much sagging- but the flaky is driving me crazy
( and for flaky skin, even if oily means there isn’t enough moisture)
I found this website [Face- Truth in Aging](http://www.truthinaging.com/category/face/) which seems to have good reviews because their opinions are backed up by other review sites.
and now I am seriously considering buying this
[Clarisonic Skin Care Brush System - Save 10% Code FAB10](This Brand is Currently Unavailable | SkinStore)
by cleaning your skin it helps all the other products work better

Sauve, Natural Oatmeal for body. $3 at the Dollar General. I have been using it for years for both face and body.

I have dry skin, and always have. I use Estee Lauder moisturizer and their Perfectionist super moisturizer for the wrinkly areas. The regular moisturizer has a built in spf 15 sun block. I use an Oil of Olay moisturizing face wash.

All I know is my face “stuff” has become progressively more expensive over time. On a business trip while going through security in Lon, they wanted to take my face cream. I told them that I wasn’t boarding without my cream. Luckily there was an airline representative escorting me to the flight, they worked it out. There is nothing more important to a woman than her face “stuff.” I need to change my cream every so often, just like shampoo.

I find regular facial is very important, even for younger women.

kathiep,
I must have even dryer skin than yours. I cannot wash my face in a evening at all, I just put on lotion before bed. I am so dry that my hair do not get dirty at all, I shampoo it once a week if I remember, but have to condition every day.

R124687–the Regenerist ads are tempting. I like to be told exactly what to do–can you tell me which products you use? My regimen these days includes eye cream, some kind of anti-aging serum (no idea if they even work!), a moisturizer for day and one for night. (I must say I’ve leaned away from Oil of Olay products. I swear that pink lotion stuff that was around 30 years ago made me a little barfy.)

And speaking of which, has anybody found an eye cream that REALLY helps with wrinkles? I don’t think I have much problem with puffiness/under-eye darkness and really do not have crow’s feet, just too many wrinkles under the eye. I don’t think anything I’ve ever tried has made a difference.

My situation is exactly like R124687’s “Oil of Olay - BayBEE!!! All the way, all my adult life. I didn’t have big problems as a teen (oily, average blemishes), but I have GREAT skin now. People comment on it.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I just use the regular Oil of Olay daily moisturizer, have been using it for about 15 years and I’m 50.

MiamiDAP, If I wash my face at night, I put on a night moisturizer, also from Estee Lauder. To my daughters utter horror, I often don’t wash my face before bed.

They say getting old is for the brave, and I think this is part of what is meant!

I’ve tried many different kinds but my favorite, and the one I use exclusively now, is Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme (which sounds awful!). There’s one for day and one for night.

mathmom - my skin was always so oily - even now it gets that way a little bit or maybe it’s finally “normal”.
I can’t stand to have “stuff” on my face - I have every excuse in the book. If I put sunscreen on then it stings when my allergies make my eyes water.
Foundation and skin creams feel like plastic and I end up rubbing or scraping it off with my fingernails. gross I know. I just can’t get used to the feel.
In the winter I sometimes use moisturizer after my shower. I do wash with dove.
I don’t have wrinkles ( I have always looked young) but I do have freckles and I worry about them turning into basal cell.

I had no idea the cetaphil has suncreen in it? maybe I will try that - thanks PackMom.
