I also am a many year Olay user. I like their new ProX age repair lotion w/ sunscreen. People have commented that I “have a glow”.

Another Olay product, maybe Regenerist, because I’ve used it for awhile also, completely reduced a larger than pencil erasure size dark spot on my face. It was not an age spot because I had it before I got “old”. More like a beauty spot. My husband noticed it was getting lighter before I did, and now you cannot see it.

Harriet, I have rosacea. I used to use Basis Face The Day lotion. A dermatologist recommended it to me years ago. It’s cheap and it didn’t irritate my skin or make it any redder. I haven’t been able to find it in a while, though. I’m still looking for that perfect product…

Yup, I’ve been on MetroGel (summer) and MetroCream (winter) for about 12 years. It definitely keeps the breakouts away, and most of the redness. Still looking for a great moisturizer, though.

patsmom, I also liked Face the Day but haven’t found it in years.

I am 49, so I hope that it is ok that I jump in here. I have recently started using Clinique’s daily moisterizing cream with sunprotection factor 25. I like it. I LOVED my Daily Defense moisturizer by Aloette but it only has SPF 15 and my dermatologist said that is not enough (I live in South Florida). The Clinique one is not greasy…goes on like a light cold cream and doesn’t give me break outs. Try it:[Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer in Dry Combination - Customers’ Top Rated Clinique - Beauty - Macy’s](http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=342659&CategoryID=43478)

I love this thread. I used Clinique Advanced Cream for over a decade until they stopped making it. It calmed mild rosacea and smelled very mild and felt great. It had an immediate cooling effect and was very rich - I have had dry skin since teen years and have moisturized since then. I still miss the Advanced cream - have not found anything to settle on since.

Had an ayurvedic person mention that olive oil is actually drying overall, which made sense to me in the odd way that after using it then the next few days the skin would be drier, especially if used on the lips in a homemade formula. She suggested using sesame oil, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Oh and - I have the Sjorgen’s symptoms but they calm dramatically when I remove milk (lactose) from the diet. Very clear response. Also the bumpy skin on upper arms smooths out when I’m careful about diet.

That’s interesting, firsttimemom, about the dairy & Sjorgen’s syndrome. I’ll pass that on to my sister in law! She also has rosacea symptoms (think they are related) so maybe that will help, too.

OP here. Thanks for all of your input. I think I am convinced to try some of the Olay products. I’d really like to reduce some of the brown spots too.

For the rosacea sufferers - I have rosacea which got *very *severe a few years back. I was constantly aware of my face because my skin just hurt. I would be driving along and just kept thinking of how my face was hurting. That was when I finally made a derm appt. I actually found Olay moisturizer really aggravated it. I thought my skin was just dry and would put more olay on. Then someone gave me the tip to avoid anything with oil in it - oil of olay hmm. Once I stopped slathering that on it helped quite a bit. For me anything with oil in it is a big no no. It is somewhat under control now, certainly better than it was. My face is generally much calmer but my nose is still a problem. Rudolph look is bad enough but the sudden pustules - sorry but that is what they are called - are awful. My skin will be fine then all of a sudden - I look in the mirror and aaah - my nose!!! The things I have used/tried with the dermatologist and on my own:

Metrogel. Helped overall skin. Nose still a problem.

The antibiotics. Tried the Oracea for one 3 month supply, worked but could not afford it. An now on the generic doxycycline which works fine - yay for walmart’s 3 month supply for $10.

Tried the clinique anti redness - very expensive. Did not work for me. Also tried the cliniques yellow powder for calming the red look - for a while it was nice as it did calm the red but it made my nose break out horribly after a few days. really really horribly!

Kohls all calm - I really liked it at first and it calmed my face and really evened my skin tone. But again it made my nose break out really badly (seeing a pattern here?). Probably because I used the toner. I may try it again without the toner. Or avoid the toner on my nose.

Eucerin anti redness products - I found they work well.

Aveemo ultra calming products I like also. Have used both the foaming cleanser and a cream one.

Cetaphil - was what the dermatologist recommended. Definitely helped in the initial days but I find the eucerin and aveemo better currently.
8.Aloe vera gel - I have found is the only thing that currently works when my nose breaks out.

Head and shoulders. I read on a forum that it can help so I tried it. All I can say is - ow ow ow! It made my face burn like hell. If I ever want to go to a fancy dress party as a lobster I will try it again!

For sun tan lotion - I use aveemo or cetaphil moisturizer with the spf in it for daily use. When I go somewhere where it will be really sunny I use the made just for the face sun tan lotion that comes in a little tub. Regular sun tan lotion actually makes my face blister without any need for the sun.

So far the products from the drugstore - aveemo, cetaphil and eucerin have been much more successful for me. Also the kohls stuff seemed good - would have probably been great before it got as severe as it is. The more expensive things have not been a success for me. I went on a cruise and the girl in the salon convinced me to but some really expensive stuff that she assured me would be great for my rosacea. Two days later I returned it - after looking at my red raw face she didn’t argue about giving my money back. Probably wanted me out of the spa before I scared off the rest of her clients!

With the rosacea I am more focused on calming the redness and breakouts than worrying about the wrinkles and saggyness. (don’t I sound attractive ) . But that aspirin mask sounds very interesting. may give it a try.

I am in my early 50’s. People think I am in my early 40’s. I attribute that mostly to good genes and I was an avid user of Oil of Olay as a young woman for years. But as I got older it wasn’t enough. I use Philosphy’s 3 basic steps.
Their Purity Made Simple facial cleanser is light and for all skin type. Next comes their Eye and Lip firming cream and then lastly their rich and creamy Hope in A Jar moisturizer. It is light and whipped so a little goes a long way. They also have night versions of some of the creams.

They also have other serums and treatments for specific problems as well as peels
and exfoliators. But for daily clean and radiant skin, this is all you need. I really love it. It gives my face a more smoothe appearance and it gets better with daily use.

I have very fair skin that sunburns easily, so I’ve done my best to stay out of the sun altogether for the last 25 years or so (after foolishly spending quite a bit of time in my teens and 20’s trying in vain to get tanned instead of burned). I discovered many years ago that putting any kind of moisturizer with fragrance on my face will almost always cause a severe rash, so I only use hypoallergenic, fragrance-free moisturizers. The one I like best, when I can find it (most drugstores do carry it) is a comparatively inexpensive moisturizer called Moisturel, which I find lighter and less greasy than some others. (I also use an Aveeno fragrance-free moisturizer, but not on my face.)

In terms of being over 50 (I’m 54), I seem to have been blessed genetically with skin that I’m told makes me look quite a bit younger than my age – still no sign of crows’ feet or any other facial wrinkles, knock on wood! Still, I do figure that that will have to start happening one of these days (unless there’s a painting of me aging away in a closet somewhere, in the manner of Dorian Gray). So, in order to stave that day off as long as possible, I’ve been using a couple of L’Oreal Revitalift products once or twice a day for the last several years – the eye cream underneath and at the corners of my eyes, and the face and neck cream on my neck. Whether they actually help or not I can’t say, but at least using them makes me feel that I’m doing something.

In addition, I also have occasional problems with rosacea, which I developed in my early 20’s after I’d been on prednisone for a while. It was very severe for a number of years, as I think I’ve mentioned elsewhere; not only did I frequently get those awful, painful, swollen red bumps on my nose (which would just sit there for weeks once I got them), but my face would flush at the slightest provocation (like being in an overheated room), and my cheeks would turn bright red and stay that way. Once I finally got off the prednisone after I first had surgery in the 1980’s, the rosacea improved, although I do still have a tendency to get flushed very easily if I’m not careful to try to keep my face cool. For my nose, I use a topical antibiotic lotion (clindamycin), both as a preventive and at the first sign of any redness, and it’s been very effective for many years at avoiding problems.

I have rosacea. The best line I have used for it is from Nikken. They are a multi level marketing company though and I don’t know anyone now who is a distributor, so I looked for an alternative. I have been pleased with the Cetaphil cleanser. I also use Dermarest Rosacea formula. It is sold at drugstores and is the cheapest thing I have ever used on my face - but I really like it. Something else that I won’t do without for the redness and to smooth the skin for the application of makeup is Photo Finish Foundation Primer by Smashbox - the green color adjust one. It is like silk.

I have a slight case of rosacea; some of the redness, but not the pimples. Currently not using anything special – the Metrogel helped a little, the Clindamycin not so much. Don’t seem to have a problem w/ it in the summer.

Has anyone used a range of products from Paula’s Choice? I’ve been very impressed with Paula Begoun who started the line. She’s a beauty products expert and has written the book “Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me.” I’ve used her own line of cleanser and love it. I’m tempted to try the rest of her products. [Paula Begoun: Paula’s Choice: Cosmetics Cop: Skin Care & Makeup Tips & Reviews](http://www.cosmeticscop.com/)

I love Paula’s Choice. She likes to use silicones in her products - give a smooth feel to the products but it can block pores, not much of a problem to us older ladies though.

I love that her products are fragrance free and reasonably priced. If I don’t dabble in making my own cleansers and treatment lotions I would buy her products. Her BHA lotion is one of the best I have ever used.

Mine must be genetics. I don’t use a moisturizer at all. Just wash the face with Ivory soap and water. I don’t wear makeup either.
A few years back I tried Oil of Olay and just didn’t like the way it felt on my face.
I do wear sunscreen when I’m outside but I just can’t get used to using anything.
