doesn’t taking out a $539 loan seem kinda pointless? and that’s just average, meaning students have taken out/the school has offered even smaller loans…

May seem pointless but I suppose for those need based, that can be the money they just can’t get any other way at the moment.

Sounds like they may be including “Emergency Loan” figures, if the school offers those.

I have my school covered completely for this fall, but I needed to take out a small loan just to help cover gas and small costs to get there until I start to get work-study money. I would only need about $100, but the minimum is $500 for Stafford loans. I’m guessing a lot of people there did the same thing.

$500 short is $500 short.

It’s an average. It’s not going to be entirely representative of a typical loan. There are probably a large majority of students at the college that do not take loans at all which are skewing the number.

^why would an average loan figure include people who are not taking loans?
