Is it possible to get a $58,000 scholarship from a college (in this case, University of San Diego)?

That probably represents the value of a renewable scholarship over 4 years - i.e., $14,500 per year (which is nice to have, but not really a big deal – not even half tuition at most colleges).

That’s what I originally thought, but that person insisted on the fact that she got $58,000 for one year (and she would not give it a rest, so I stopped arguing with her).

^^

How annoying! I hate when people are so assured that they are right, when it is obviously wrong.

I could see maybe a a thousand or so above normal, but 58k per year?? Seriously…

How much does it cost to attend University of San Diego? I’m thinking not $58,000 since they sound like a public institution, but some places do offer full scholarships and it could amount to that much at a private school.

Also, sometimes people get more scholarships than are needed and occasionally the difference is given back to the student in cash - depending on the rules for that scholarship.

If you want to know ask for more details if they are willing to tell you.

UC- San Diego is public- Univ of San Diego is not

Instead of arguing with someone about their aid package- I would focus on mentioning that it is important to be sure what is recurring, which is cumulative- in order to know what the remaining expenses will be.

Their law school cost of attendance for 2007-2008 is under $58,000 ( but not much)- but it is possible that she did receive a full ride- however, she would want to double check that that aid would be renewable, as it sounds like an expensive school.

By the way, it costs $30,000 to attend University of San Diego every year (it’s a private school).

Sorry…but that $30,000 does NOT represent the full cost of attendance at U of San Diego. I know…last year when DD was accepted there, we were looking at a total cost of attendance in excess of $40,000 per year (including tuition, room, board, books, expenses). Hiowever, it does not cost $58,000 per year.

Well I got that estimate from College Board, but you’re probably right.

according to college board, its about 43000 to attend

Any money someone gives a student to attend college is a big deal regardless of of how much it does or doesn’t cover the total cost. Wow! Congrats to that person and a gentle reminder to them to check and see if that is the total package for the 4 yrs or per year.
