5th grade SAT prep tips?

Hello. I know what you are thinking. What the hell am I doing? I am trying out for CTY Intensive Studies, and I have to take the SATs next year for admission. Writing doesn’t count, but I would like help on that anyway. Also, is vocabulary worth studying? Thank you in advance!

YES! if you are not taking sat till next year, go get the SAT Math and SAT Critical reading books, and study all summer. Not a lot, just like 30 minutes every day. You will probably need to self teach yourself some math, but at your age you will need to study vocabulary. Get a big pack of note cards and make yourself flashcards, rather than buying them. That way you learn as you make them, and you will have them for later. Good luck.

Read a lot in your spare time, too. That is the best way in the long run to build a big vocabulary and strong CR scores. My kid missed making the SET cutoff – her score was qualifying, but she took the test a month too late given her birthdate (with no studying at all). Had I known, I would have signed her up for the previous test, but we weren’t too tuned in. I agree that if you feel like studying, get the blue book and study it.

Will you be taking the new SAT? It is expected to launch in 2016 and has no difficult vocab.
