6 month internship abroad - insurance question

I know that I should have asked this question sooner, but here goes. DS leaves on Saturday for a 6-month internship in Saudi Arabia. I am able to keep him on my health insurance; if he needs medical care, it will be out of network. His flights are paid for by the company, housing is provided, and he will be paid enough to live on.

Is there any additional insurance he should have? Where does he get it? Some of the travel insurance websites I have tried to get prices on don’t allow for a 6-month trip. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

You might want to get health insurance with medivac, in case he needs to be flown back to the states. (THat being said, DD does not have this.) We found a plan that costs about $50 a month, (more if the deductable is lower) that covers healthy care abroad and medivac transportation back to the states in an emergency… Try googling overseas health insurance…

My daughter has spent more time abroad in the past couple of years than in the states, going all over the place – I always use IMG - (International Medical Group) – [Travel Insurance, Travel Health Insurance, International Travel Insurance ? IMG Insurance](http://www.imglobal.com/) – I once used something else, but I settled on IMG because at the time I did a comparison of costs & benefits a few years back, it came out the best for our needs. That could change, of course --but so far my daughter’s never needed to use the insurance, but its hassle free for me, so that’s what I went with. I’ve used the Patriot Travel plan – it’s renewable for up to 24 months, so 6 months would be no problem.

Thank you for the advice - exactly what I was looking for. I bought an IMG plan. He’s in the air now!
