My growing-louder battle cry during the search is “What’s in it foodwise for us, the parents?” McGill has all those amazing smoked meat delis, U Mich has Zingerman’s, UC Davis is near Pedrick’s produce stand with toothsome handmade tortillas. Who cares if she doesn’t want to go to these places? </p>
<p>Worst pick: ignoring Zachary’s pizza in Berkeley for Emilia’s. Zachary’s is the best deep-dish Chicago pie I’ve ever had, even better than any pie I’ve ever eaten in Chicago. I’m also not sure why for UCSB they didn’t recommend a burrito from Freebirds. </p>
<p>My D1 has no interest in Duke, and she’d never get in, but I really want to try that peanut pie, so maybe a visit is called for. :)</p>
<p>I know, that peanut pie looked so good! I have a friend with two kids at Duke. She’s bone thin, so I bet she’s never tried the peanut pie in all the times she’s been there.</p>

<p>Pittsburgh’s pastrami sandwich embedded with french fries and coleslaw is just plain bizarre.</p>
<p>Slithey Tove, I totally agree with you about Zachary’s. I think they nailed it for Moraga (St. Mary’s) with Chef Chao’s–that’s our go-to place for take-out Chinese. However, they could also have done Amoroma (Italian food, but not normally take-out).</p>

<p>Good grief, who submitted these entries? A burger! from a billiards hall!! For those who may end up in Columbia, MO for some reason, let me assure you there are a lot of good restaurants in town, especially downtown near Mizzou; there is no need to eat a burger at a pool hall.</p>
<p>Two thumbs up for the Wake Forest/Winston-Salem pick of Sweet Potatoes! With D graduating in May, we’re definitely going to miss that place.</p>
<p>H and D1 are meeting up in Syracuse tomorrow (D’s alma mater) for the regionals. I know they’ve already been to Dinosaur BBQ, but some other friends they’re meeting up with there may not have been there (somehow I never managed to get there the four years she was there). I will have to warn them if they go, to be prepared for large crowds now that this article has been published!</p>
<p>So many of these look like great places to eat. I have to say, though, that The Flying Biscuit is not really a first choice for folks living in The Swamp (UF). Makes me wonder . . . who picked that one?</p>
<p>I think the author probably just Googled food places from the cities of the teams. I went UCSB and I never even heard of the place mentioned, which is in downtown Santa Barbara and 12 miles from campus. Although I don’t think it’s the greatest, Freebirds is the quintessential Isla Vista (town next campus) eatery.</p>
<p>Yeah, that must be what happened. The Flying Biscuit has only been around for a few months. It’s not an established eatery that’s full of memories, etc. I’ve heard the biscuits aren’t exactly like momma’s, either. (You know, light and fluffy - the way a good southern biscuit should be.)</p>
<p>and while all Cornell students do at some point eat at the Hot Truck. if you are in Ithaca I would think you would want to eat at Moosewood.</p>
<p>As far as UCSB goes, most of the students and alum would say Freebirds. SuperRica is, as was pointed out, away from campus. My theory about the choice is that Julia Child used to like to go there so it is on the foodie map. I have eaten at both. They are very different. But Freebirds is certainly more Gaucho.</p>
<p>Ok, so D is very interested in the University of Scranton. (great nursing program)</p>

<p>^^Although I own several Moosewood cookbooks my one experience eating at the restaurant was a disappointment. Instead, double your cholesterol meds and eat a Bo burger on the Cornell campus. The diner that originated them is long gone but students today are loving them almost as much as we did.</p>
<p>Nothing beats cheese colzone at D’s school. I have constant cravings for it. I do not want to go to any restaurant when we visit her, I just what to go to one thier campus places and get this cheese colzone.</p>
