So the March SAT scores came back and it wasn’t pretty- 640CR 760M 610W. Does anyone know how I can push my CR score up to at least a 700? I’m been doing a lot of practice tests (20+) before the March SAT so I was pretty disappointed when I found out my score wasn’t even in the high 600s. Thanks.
Have you worked on vocabulary? I went to a presentation by a test prep company last year and they said that working on vocabulary could get you as many as 100 “free” points. Commit yourself to a certain number of words per day or week. My daughter used Direct Hits and a Princeton Review book and made flash cards for words she didn’t know.
How many sentcoms did you miss?
I have to wait until April 7 to know what questions I got wrong
I’m in the same range as you. On all of my practice tests I score around a 650. I think the only thing you can work on is the vocabularies. There’s no way to memorize a whole dictionary, but knowing all the top 300 words will definitely give you a boost because you can easily eliminate most of the answers. I’m taking the SAT in June, so hopefully I’ll get all the sentence completion right on the test. You should get the Critical Reader by Erica Meltzer and her SAT grammar books. I went from a 450 on the PSAT to around a 600 on practice tests after two weeks of studying her book. She covers all the grammar expected to be found on the actual SAT.
Also knowing roots of words will be very helpful since one root has many words deriving from it.
When you score as high as 640 (it is actually a good score!) in order to improve you really need to pint point your weakness. Look at your mistakes and plan accordingly. Do you only miss the hard questions? Do you make random mistakes (some easy, some medium etc)? Do you miss a lot of sentence completion? You can not get advice without the details. Work on your vocabulary might have ZERO relevance for your, or it might be the answer.
