650 on Critical Reading!

I am hoping to apply ED to Duke next fall as a white male from suburban Wisconsin. I got a 2210 on my SAT (800 math, 650 CR, 760/12 writing). As I look at the accepted students, it looks like no white kids got in with that low on any section. Is this going to kill me? I got a 35 on the ACT with a 35 on reading.

i think you’re fine, test-wise. Not everyone has the stats that you read on this site. Obviously you need the grades, recommendations and EC’s to go with your good scores.

Congrats on the 800. Good for you.

Yeah dude, don’t worry about it. I had a 660 verbal and got in (1370 overall…yes, I know, that seems bad… but frankly, I don’t care anymore. That’s one of the joys of college :)). I also had a 33 ACT score. So, I think you’re fine.

Don’t worry about it at all - you’re test scores are solid. That one subsection is easily compensated by your ACT score and your high math score. They don’t expect everything to be perfect.

You’re fine on test scores as long as your ECs are awesome. I got in with a 620 math, 780 verbal, and a 33 ACT.
