777 Jet crashes at SFO

[Jetliner crashes at San Francisco International - SFGate](http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Jetliner-crashes-at-San-Francisco-International-4650259.php)

airport closed. some survivors. Expecting S on flight today…not sure when or where he’ll be flying in now…

Oh my god… So terrible!

That IS scary an so unusual. Hope folks are all right and the cause of the fire can be determined so corrections can be made to prevent future problems.

Latest I read is that the tail came off during landing, which caused the fire. So far, reports are that no casualties (according to one passenger) and people are mostly rattled and taken care of by rescue workers.

<a href=“National News - New York Daily News”>National News - New York Daily News;

Call the airline, ask them. Airport may not be closed too long, as they have other runways and the weather is good. Unless its a huge smoking hole. Man, I hope everyone got out alive, but reports are so minimal right now.

The tail hit the breakwater first from the videos
It looks like everyone was evacuated.
It’s interesting that the eyewitnesses mistook seeing the tail tumble for the fuselage.
The fire is probably from hitting the center fuel tank.

pictures are scary, but there are survivors!

I sure hope that baby on board was in an approved seat.
I dont think they should be allowed to hold babies on their laps- you cant in an automobile.

As I recall, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner has battery issues causing a fire risk. What is the cause of the crash? It looks like 777 has engine problems too.

They said all flights are cancelled

They are diverting international flights to LAX, domestic flights to Oakland and San Jose. No reports on when they plan to reopen SFO.

The tail hit before the runway. It looks like all the passengers are off &'had time to grab their carryons.
Interesting how the eyewitnesses mistook the tail tumbling for the fuselage, but thats why we have video.
The fire was probably from when it hit & burst the center fueltank.
The fuselage is upright. It didnt roll.

So glad there are at present no reports of casualties. The plane doesn’t look so good. :(

So DS moves to SF and they immediately have a BART strike and a plane crash… Hmmm… this is worrisome. Hoping for no earthquake!

Not a good time to visit Berkeley.

The latest I have read are two deaths and 12 taken to hospitals. Incomplete information at this time. If that is the extent, it would be pretty miraculous when you look at the fuselage.

Have deaths been confirmed?
Another television station reports 48 injured but that hasnt been confirmed.
Id post a pic of the passengers with their carry ons but it was from a Samsung exec tweet.

I just heard 2 deaths as well.

Some UNCONFIRMED witness reports make it sound POSSIBLE that the pilot lined up to land on the wrong runway initially, then made a late bid to correct to Runway 28L which he was cleared to land on. From the video of the wreckage, it looks like the tail hit the breakwater (which would cause it to break off) and the rest of the airplane skidded further down and eventually off the runway. He definitely appears to have landed short of 28L for whatever reason.

I’ve flown into that airport several times, and it can definitely be a “pilot workload intensive” environment, as most major airports are. You need to stay on top of your game, and it’s quite POSSIBLE these pilots MAY not have.

2 died, 61 injured (10 critically injured: 2 kids, 8 adults)

San Franscico fire dept have confirmed two people have died.
This is the 2nd time that a part of a777 has been destroyed or otherwise beyond economical repair during flight.
This is also the first crash of a major airliner at SFO.

SFO Twitter indicates that 2 (of 4) runways may open shortly…
