7th grade SAT and ACT scores

@herandhisMom: She’s going to a Language immersion program, that was actually the impetus for all of this. Her teacher recommended it last year…but she was too young. So we got semi on the ball this academic year. When she got the catalog, she seemed very interested in the cryptology. I told her that if she went that route, she could expect to start getting courted by the govt. for one of the various agencies. ;-P

@monstor344: Wow, a perfect score! Way to go.

I wanted to point you in the direction of the New Yorker article from a few years back entitled “Nerd Camp”, about CTY and its ilk. Apparently, some experts feel you can predict something from these early scores and do put some stock in them.

Regarding someone’s comment about these 7th graders out performing college bound seniors: It is an amazing thing. But it also puts an amazing amount of weight on the parents to foster our child’s potential without pushing them too much AND being fiscally responsible.

My son did the Cryptography course in 5th grade and really enjoyed it. No government inquiries, yet. He has continued with the JHU Honors math in place of the middle school curriculum, which has been a very good decision. The language immersion sounds like lots of fun!

7th: 500 M/510 CR/560 W
9th: 660 M/650 CR/770 W
11th: 800 M/740 CR/800 W

^Woah, that’s a pretty awesome improvement.

^^TQSMNTASP, teach me your ways!

8th: 600 M/590 CR/590 W
10th: 720 M/650 CR/730 W

^ and 11th: 700 M/760 CR/800 W

Thanks raiderade and superhamster, but I didn’t really have any special ways…I’ve always been a grammar person so the writing for me has been pretty straightforward (only difference between 9th and 11th grade Writing was a 9 vs 12 essay). Math I got pretty lucky that day, usually I miss one or two, but for the hardest problems it just clicked. And CR was hard that day, missed 5 passage questions to get a 740, but for me that was good enough.

As far as studying, I’m not trying to sound impressive here, just being truthful…I really only studied the week before the test using Barrons’s 2400 and took about 5 Princeton Review Practice tests. I didn’t take a class, use a tutor, or study vocab words like a maniac. I got a goodnight’s sleep, read Harry Potter when I woke up that morning, told myself I could always take it again if I didn’t do well, and reminded myself that my brother got into MIT, Harvard, and Yale (and 7 other schools) with a 2170 =)

Yes TQSMNTASP, your improvement is so impressive! If I can be like you in 11th grade I’ll be happy. :)

7th Grade:600 M/600 Cr/620 W(my essay score in writing in 7th grade was higher than my score as a junior …)
1820
11th grade: 800 M/800 Cr/780 W
2380

Mmm I’m pretty sure mine went

7th: 530CR/380M/540W (8 essay)
11th:670CR/720M/670W (8 essay lol)

7th grade: 2150
10th grade: 2320

RedPassion, Your 7th grade SAT is so high. (mine was like 500 pts lower. mymath sucked.) I guess when you took it in 10th grade it was a piece of cake?

^ Oh… Have you seen Xiggi’s thread about studying for the SAT’S. I recommend it. Yeah, I did CTY so I had to take the SAT’S in the 7th grade. It wasn’t a piece of cake, per se. I studied 20 minutes every day reviewing small lessons and building on them. Also, I reviewed every SAT exam I took to see why I got something wrong.

27 in 8th / 34 in 11th

When I took the SAT in 7th grade my mom came into my bedroom at like 6 am and was like “YOU NEED TO GET UP AND TAKE A TEST! WE ARE LEAVING NOW!” That was the extent of my preparation.

7th Grade:
680M, 620CR, 600W (7E If I remember correctly) - 1900 composite
11th Grade:
770M, 800CR, 800W (12E) - 2370 composite
800M, 800CR, 800W (12E) - 2400 composite

this is such an interesting thread.

7th: i don’t even remember my section scores from this test (so long ago, wow!!) but composite was 1550
11th: 780M, 790R, 780W = 2350

i remember getting my score in seventh grade and being so disappointed and so sure that i would never achieve greatness. and while i wouldn’t say getting a 2350 on the SAT is exactly greatness, i’d like to believe i’m on the right track.

good luck to all of the middle schoolers (and parents) here. i really wish i’d found this site earlier. i learned so much in the past few months that i wish i had known before i started the whole process. and don’t be discouraged at all if you didn’t do so hot on the SAT in seventh grade.

I really wanted to get a copy of it to show to people and maybe get some advices for improvement. My mom called CB. They asked her to send a writen request. She did. After 3 weeks the letter bounced back, even though the address was correct. Then my mom called. They finally emailed it to us. btw, because I’m younger than 13, I can not have a CB account. maybe those who are in HS don’t need to bother. Do you get a copy of your eassay anyway?
So, yeah, it took a while but I got it. I’m happy. I got 8 – I knew it for a while, but I just want to see it and keep a copy.

i took it in 3rd grade and got a 800
530 verbal/470 math
