7th grade SAT and ACT scores

I’m in seventh grade and got a 25 on my first try on the ACT.

I got a 24 on the ACT in 7th grade.
Despite a ton of chaos and family instability I’ve pulled a 29 just this February. [:
Duke TiP - ahh, represent!! :D

24 (no essay) as an 8th grader (no prep)
27 (no essay) as a 9th grader (no prep)
34 (w/ 11 essay) as a 10th grader (prep)
35/36 (expecting…lol scores on monday) as an 11th grader (no prep)

Shmluza, did you have 1060 total or 1060 M+CR?

raiderade, My CR is 600 and math 480. in writing I got 560. CTY just updated my information and I signed up for a camp! (I also just found out my essay is 8, so my mom owes me $20! she predicted I’d get 4 at most.)
I really look forward to the camp. I’ve never stayed away from home that long though.

7th grade, 550 math, 530 CR
12th grade, 800 math, 790 CR, 790 WR

We finally got d’s scores by mail today. She was 11 when she took the test so she can’t sign up for online access to scores and I didn’t want to pay to get them by phone.

CR 640
M 520
W 600 (MC 64, Essay 6)

total M+CR= 1160 so she qualifies for all CTY programs.

7th grade - 640M/490W/480R, 32M, 28E, 28R, 24S
8th grade - 790M, 680W, 580R, 35M, 30E, 35R, 30S

Fellow Delawarian! You have great scores. Are you planning on going to CTY?

I took the ACT in 4th grade when I was 8 and got an 18 =P

My parents didn’t know about any of these programs and didn’t have me do any SAT/ACT in middle school though.

My daughter is in a Gifted & Talented Center school in Northern Virginia and was invited to take the SAT in the CTY competition. She’s 12 yrs old, in 7th grade, and scored:

CR - 640
Math - 540
Writing - 640 (essay - 8)

Total score 1820

We think she’s nuts, but she signed up to take them again in May to try for the SET program with a score of 700. She wants to go to TJ. Does that help her?

This is a great site for parents. Luckily my daughter just likes the challenge of these tests, but the pressure for these kids now can be overwhelming for parents, too!

greatfallsmom, I don’t know if it helps at all because her scores are good enough right now. My daughter took the test when she’d barely turned 12 so she will likely take them again next fall to see if she qualifies for SET. She had had literally no preparation when she took the test–as in hadn’t even seen the format–and did well.

Thanks! It’s impossible to tell what helps on the TJ application. But CTY seems like a good program on its own merits.

i took the sat back in 6th grade back when it was the old test. I got a 560 in math and 480 verbal so my score was 1040/1600.

Right now im a junior in high school and took the ACT and got a 27 composite. 30 in math 27 in science 25 in reading 24 in english and 8 in writing.

so yeah i guess high school made me less smarter

Found this thread googling “Seventh Grade SAT Scores” to get a feel for how our 12 year old did on the January 2009 test.

BTW, TIP publishes their percentiles, but only compared to college bound seniors. Also, they give the scores out over the phone free for 7th graders since we can’t have an online account.

FWIW, she did pretty well. Especially considering she had just turned 12 a few weeks before the test. No prep besides taking the practice test that you can get online (I wanted her to be comfortable with format).

Math: 590
CR: 620
Writing: In the sixes, but I forget exactly where…I do remember an 8 for the essay.

These scores qualify her for all CTY stuff but SET, and she’s going to a summer program in July.

Like shoshi above, I am going to sign her up for another test…probably June to see if she could qualify for SET. And perhaps in the fall — though she will also take the SSAT for private high school admission.

What’s TJ?

I believe it is Thomas Jefferson School of the Sciences in Alexandria, VA.

SevenDad, Will your daughter be in the first session or second of CTY summer camp?

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology - #1 high school in the nation.

It’s kind of insane that these little kids are outperforming the overwhelming majority of rising seniors.

Wow, I didn’t take it in 7th but in 8th grade I got a 640 M, 530 R, ~570 W; I don’t remember my exact writing score but the point is my cumulative score was looooooow, like ~1740. My freshman score was an improvement but not by much. It’s pretty remarkable to think that I took that 8th-grade SAT in January of 2007, and when I took it again two years later (albeit at the end of the year) I got a 2400.

The main point: seriously, don’t put stock into your scores at a young age. Just like you can’t judge how tall a 5th grader will be as an adult based solely on cursory observation, you have no way of really knowing whether your skills are plateauing or whether you aren’t even close to reaching your fullest capabilities (99.9% fall into the latter group. I would like to think that I am still part of the latter group as well!).

Has anybody taken the ReadiStep for 7th or 8th grade?
